Where to find land or campsite?

Hi everyone,

I've been reading your posts for while and have finally signed up and would love some help from you wise people! I'm desperate to start a 'glamping' business on a small scale to earn a bit of money whilst my kids are young. I have some capital to buy a piece of land etc, but I'm struggling to find anything suitable.

When I search online it brings up mainly prime grazing or pasture land which is too expensive and good for my needs! Really all I need is a few acres of land, which could be sloping or wooded - basically something with a bit of character. Please can anyone offer me any advice as to where I should be looking?

Any help massively appreciated!

As above - you must persevere with your search. If your venture is region-specific, you must simply check every single auctioneer's/land agent's/estate agent's listings every single week. The one you want is always the easiest to miss!

Good luck (I'm in the same boat - nothing has cropped up here, either. I have been looking for a couple of years, too!)

Hi I'm new on here just found you this evening whilst searching for Elsan emptying sanitary ware! We have just opened a campsite with the camping and caravan club. What a struggle it was to. Do not get involved with PP if you can help it..... that's my advice. Planner put us through the mill - anyway we are open, however, you do not need PP for a campsite of no more that 6 pitches. But reason I came on here was to find out if anyone knows where to get an Elsan emptying funnel for emptying chemical toilets. We have installed an ordinary toilet for the time being but its not really working that well, too much of a splash when cassettes are tipped into it and splashed all over the walls

Best of luck here but words of warning: don't make the assumption that the land you can buy can be used as you want. Much land is sold with uplift value so if you get planning for anything non ag based you will have to pay the selller a fee, normally a % of uplift value.

Just keep looking and make yourself known locally but be prepared for a very long wait as you need the right sized bit to come up in the right location at the right price with planning potential. At best you may only get pre app advice before committing to buy which does not give you full certainty that if you did complete on said land you would get what you want planning wise.

If these ideas were easy every land owner would be doing it...

Don't let my negativity put you off though :finger:

On Thursday 26th September, we’re holding a webinar for farmers to go through the guidance, actions and detail for the expanded Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) offer. This was planned for end of May, but had to be delayed due to the general election. We apologise about that.

Farming and Countryside Programme Director, Janet Hughes will be joined by policy leads working on SFI, and colleagues from the Rural Payment Agency and Catchment Sensitive Farming.
