Where to mount fire extinguishers

We have 2kg in the cab of each tractor, various different places but all secure.

Then a 50kg on the back of the balers. Is there room for one on the baler drawbar?

Not sure I fancy a fire extinguisher to the face if you overturn the tractor!
I’ve had a few machinery fires, first one I sacrificed my clothes and drink and instantly regretted saving the horrible tractor!
The second was a forklift, by the time you would have got the pin out of the extinguisher it would be a waste of time!

I'm not in favour of anything in the cab that is loose. The number of people who carry pins, tools or even the drawbar hook on the cab floor scares me a lot.

I must admit to having taken the title to this thread in the wrong context.

My initial thoughts were ‘anywhere where there are no hidden cameras and you are unlikely to be disturbed’.

Sorry for intruding.

Most tractors I’ve driven would be better burnt. Also, any fire extinguisher I have had cause to use has been woefully inadequate.
Seriously, you should get hold of an old fire extinguisher and have a go with it to see what they might do. They are certainly not magic wands.

Hello all......I have just retired from the fire extinguisher industry after 27 years. I don't wish to be patronising to yourselves or condescending to your fire extinguisher provider but they really need to offer you some correct and valid advice.
Balers and combines catch fire because of heat and dust. Deal with the dust.....less chance of a fire. Deal with the heat of a fire with something that will COOL it. Powder WILL NOT. Powder will blast the dust all over the place potentially making the fire spread. FOAM SPRAY aka AFFF SPRAY is the best option on machinery where there is also a flammable liquid risk.....diesel, petrol etc.
Your service provider should be telling you that powder is NOT the best option. If they are saying it is, they haven't got a clue what they are talking about and should not be in the industry.
Leave aside the BS recommendations of 2012.....it's ALWAYS been like this. Nothing has changed. Deal with baler and combine fires with WATER based extinguishers, not powder.
Although I think the suggestion of a 50 litre unit is a bit over the top!!!!!
Mount them where you can get them quickly in the event of a fire.....you decide where that is on your respective machine. And ALWAYS mount them on a bracket.....don't let them roll around the cab.
Finally.....ask your service provider how to use them.....you don't need a full training session, just some basic instruction.
Hope this helps.

For those of you familiar with proper plumbed-in motorsport extinguishers, I could never fathom why something with the potential to go on fire like a baler or combine didn't have it as an option from the factory nevermind standard, puzzles me! I know the powder ones smay be naff but at the press of a switch and the baler is doused in water it would content me to pay a small premium on these expensive machines.
