Which ground grain moisture meter

I parked up two Protimeters and got a Marconi, simple and cheap, even after Lodekka had breathed new life into it.
You could buy a secondhand one, have it done up and mains converted, and still have change from 200 quid, treat yourself and have two, still be less than a new Protimeter.
Ok it needs power socket, but I only ever sample in grainstore anyway

I'm loving life with my marconi's
I bought an early one on here last year did the battery conversion myself, that now lives in the grain store. Thos year I bought a later green model again on someone on here and that's either in my motor for when we go and see a field or in a tractor when were cutting I do still have a Wiley in the combine which is handy and accurate for a quick check.

edit...or perhaps he has a 'life' not like us saddos glued to this on a sunday afternoon
Well, I came in for me dinner and no sign of him, I've been and done a bit of 'breed promotion' at a local council run country fair type thing and I've now sneaked back in to watch the T20 on the telly and still he hasn't showed up.

FFS, it's like an open goal for him - people are even recommending Marconies. Must be costing him thousands in lost sales   .I'll try shouting...........

Thanks guys🙂 actually my birthday today so took a day out - just got back to seeing these messages.

Can only say that ( apart from me being very biased) the Marconi Moisture Meter reliability ruggedness and relatability speaks for itself - I don’t really have to shout about it.

I am more than happy to offer comment if requested, and, having serviced them for over 40+ years I know they are the best - even against today’s expensive models.

Most practical people don’t want gimmicks, they want something SIMPLE, REPEATABLE & RELIABLE...
Need I say more.

Happy to help with any questions - I offer spares, service, re-calibration and support at a sensible price..
Who can ask or expect for more?
Regards
Nigel

After what must be around 30 years, my Protimeter has finally died. What replacement would anyone recommend?
Buy a Marconi, you won’t go wrong or regret it - thousands of other owners can’t be wrong...
And this is with an instrument design that is over 70 years old. Speaks volumes for reliability...
Value is no contest.
If you need any help - feel free to contact me.
Regards
Nigel

A belated Happy Birthday Lodekka

I have a Protimeter and a ring main tested Dickie John at the store. The Protimeter is always at least a % out and inconsistent. The Wile 78 is good but I would also recommend a Marconi as a benchmark. Just be aware that Marconis don’t correct for temperature but it’s easy enough to use tables to do that.

I had forgotten about that sliding rule.

I used to use electric coffee grinders for producing a testable sample but they put too much heat in which distorted the result.
Electric coffee grider here. Meter reads 0.5% lower once sample has cooled down to ambient.

We were cutting hardly ripe crops a couple of weeks ago in that hot weather. Marconi wascreading significantly higher than our Infratester (uses infrared bulb and weight loss to calculate moisture).

With ripe crops, or crops in store, the marconi reads same as Infratester. So I take marconi reading at harvest with a pinch of salt. The 'nature' in the grain seems to throw the electric conductivity meters out. Anyone else find the same?
