Which laptop to run FS19?

If you want to game on the go, like a laptop, and have some real hardware behind you to do it.

...and you fancy having blistering fast internet.

Then you need to consider shadow.

Use code: DANJSBBS at checkout to save yourself a tenner too.

Try it and if you don't like it after 14 days then you can cancel for a full refund.

That shadow service wont work for toffee if your internet speed and latency are poor. It will be a nightmare.

Most games are not really sold via CD any longer, I can't remember the last one I bought with an actual physical copy. They tend to be sold on DVD format now, but that still limits them to size (7GB??)

To put that in perspective, I have GTA 5 on my PC and that is over 81GB in size.

My nephew is wanting a laptop for xmas/birthday to run FS19 and do his schoolwork on.
Budget is £500, whats best value for money?
I don't know much about gaming but just to say don't dismiss the idea of 2nd hand until you've had a look round. Mrs Lard has a Lenovo Thinkpad with intel i5, solid state drive, big memory etc & it cost under £300 ( from eflex computers in Coventry. They were very good at replying to our questions. No connection with them, just impressed.) Wouldn't know it's not new except one little mark at one corner. Heck of a lot more bang for our buck.

If you want decent spec for your budget it'd be the way to go I reckon.

(Oh and you can get a disk drive from Amazon for about £15)

Edited to add - don't just buy off the man in the pub, you want to look for "certified refurbished".

So long as you have 5Mbps it's fine, I use it on my phone when travelling and there are no issues.

It will work with less than 5Mbps, but picture quality does deteriorate rapidly.

If you can get any form of broadband, it's usually fine. On 4G it works a treat.

As for latency, I was playing Star Citizen last night and any latency you get between you and shadow is made up for by shadow through to game. Input lag is only really noticeable if you're used to playing on high end hardware to begin with.

Ping from game to shadow was sub 10ms the whole time.

Not really my bag. Is this effectively a remote desktop session with the game (or whatever) being run on some beefy bit of tin in a datacentre somewhere?

That's it exactly, they use a lot of proprietary kit and software to mitigate a lot of the problems with other platforms.

It took me a long time to try it, as normally I am a hardware kind of person, but it's quite impressive actually. I use it on my gaming laptop when I'm at home, not because i have to, but because it means that i don't have to listen to the jet engines wind up to keep it cool.

...hehehe well there’s nothing new in computing (or in farming!)

We are coming full circle, effectively using the architecture of minis and mainframes (abandoned with the rise of the mighty personal computer) back to the big box and the dumb terminal.

What’s old is new :p

Very true, best way though if it works.

I can have a computer smaller than a coffee cup and still have it capable of playing the latest games at 1440p 60fps.

...and its silent!

So we got my son a “gaming PC” from PC specialist so he can play FS19 (disc version, not online version) on it instead of using my office pc.

Trouble is he can load the game ok but it lags so much that he can’t play it.

When we got the pc we asked specifically if it would be ok to run this game.

Any ideas what the problem could be??

Yeh you'll have to throw us a bone there. It's a bit like asking "my tractor won't pull this 4 metre subsoiler" without giving any details of the prime mover or your ground/local conditions etc.

...key things are CPU family/type & speed, memory size (and type if you know), hard disk size (and type e.g. old fashioned rotating disk or SSD) etc. Perhaps details of the graphics card if you know it.

These will be the key things to get moving.

It may be lagging if he is playing a multiplayer game with someone else and if your or the host have a poor connection. This will not change if you have a powerful PC or not. Its down to connection speed.

Installing and using a large number of mods, particularly ropey ones will also kill any system due to the way the game engine works.

Post a cut and paste of your log file here and I can have a look.

On Thursday 26th September, we’re holding a webinar for farmers to go through the guidance, actions and detail for the expanded Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) offer. This was planned for end of May, but had to be delayed due to the general election. We apologise about that.

Farming and Countryside Programme Director, Janet Hughes will be joined by policy leads working on SFI, and colleagues from the Rural Payment Agency and Catchment Sensitive Farming.

This webinar will be...
