I bought a box of red hilco rods and they seem to need 15 to 20 amps more to leave a flattish bead but do run smoothly
7018 for structural stuff, 6010 for fast freeze but inverters wont run these unless you have a fronius and 6013 for general bodgery ( not drawbar eyes!! ) Please don’t weld those on know a neighbour who’s just had hell because of one shearing off.Welders, Welding Wire, Welding Equipment, Accessories & Gear | Lincoln Electric

oerlikon supercord.

Oerlikon fin cord the rolls Royce of welding rods I think. Run electrode negative on an inverter absolutely sterling results even for amateurs with a 1/4 of an idea and all positional. About 36.00 a box. It’s what they use for X-ray welds on high pressure steam and oil platforms.

Do you think that you get a better weld when you turn up power by 15 to 20 above what you would normally require. Interesting.I bought a box of red hilco rods and they seem to need 15 to 20 amps more to leave a flattish bead but do run smoothly
They recommend 90 to 140 amps for 3.2 mm which seems high. I haven't got used them yet but they don't seem to penetrate as much unless you add the extra power. If you're trying to fix some thin section like a gate or exhaust they don't blow through as easily but the weld sits up higher than usual. I haven't needed to weld anything thick yet so still learning,Do you think that you get a better weld when you turn up power by 15 to 20 above what you would normally require. Interesting.
You can cut thin metal if it's high enough , not as neat or economical as plasma cutting thoughDo you think that you get a better weld when you turn up power by 15 to 20 above what you would normally require. Interesting.
used these today for first time, looks like theres less flux than clarke or super6 ones which in a test side by side was a good thing (so muchh flux on super 6 creates pools and separations), effortless really nice weld looks perfect when finished even on rusty metal, very happy for price.just ordered some helico reds,
i used to use clarke and they were pretty good (must be a fair few years ago now) slag peeled off perfectly most of time without chipping rated them to be honest, but they changed supplier and latest ones horrendous, infact i threw them in scrap.
used some super 6 which were better than new clarkes but very average, so now trying the reds,#
ut who do you use for mig wire, tried local welding supplier and they only stock super 6 wire so just got some off ebay,
its seems again very average, not wanting top of range just something reasonable.
my inverters will run 7018's (Supercito 7018 S) nicely and happily.7018 for structural stuff, 6010 for fast freeze but inverters wont run these unless you have a fronius and 6013 for general bodgery ( not drawbar eyes!! ) Please don’t weld those on know a neighbour who’s just had hell because of one shearing off.
Can't see anyone selling them?Theses are good for general work in all positions View attachment 931281Overhead and horizontal View attachment 931282And vertical up. (Even though it’s now in a flat position)View attachment 931283
Esab are all over I think (I’m in Iceland though)Can't see anyone selling them?
