Who’s buying gear ?

They are simple to repair but no longer cheap to buy. :(
I'd rather have repairs than depreciation on my almost part-time farm.
Repairs are always there to do but depreciation is only noticable on one day, when tractor goes down the road.
I have old tractors on the home farm because we won't do more than a couple of hundred hours each per year but on the farm that makes the money we have to buy new. They will work 8 hours a day six days a week 52 weeks of the year only stopping on wet days so they will clock 2000 plus hours a year so it makes economic sense however nobody gives a warranty longer than 1200hours and no one wants a trade in here so we are starting to have some high houred tractors.

Think you hit the nail on the head there
Cannot justify new prices for 300hrs a year
However 3000 hrs a year has to be new

Some farmers will do with make do and mend this summer,

What annoys me is the price of much of the new kit.
We had a 6 metre wide drill come here on demo the other day. I could probably get away with a 3 metre on, though the dealer says I couldn’t and that I need a 4.8 metre wide one.

The 6 metre is £72,000
The 4.8 metre is £60,000
I didn’t ask about the 3 metre but expect about £30,000 plus.

All are ridiculous for my acreage (circa 750arable). It’s like they think this is the only thing we need! Never mind the tractors, sprayer, fertiliser spreader, trailers, combine, dryer etc!

Having said that, I have recently bought an ex-demo Krone round baler with 300 bales on the clock. This type of machine I don’t want to buy 2nd hand with other peoples’ history of trouble.

Had a cracking deal on this and it will not only do our own but earn its keep working on two other farms.

I was hoping to post a picture of my new high clearance tractor unfortunately i had a phone call this morning which went a bit like this. ' Your new tractor only has one door.' Me ' No i ordered the two door model'
J.D ' Yes but yours only has one door'
Me' Thats not what i ordered'
J.D' Yes but we broke a door but only one'
Me ' Keep it'
J.D ' But why the rest of it is fine'View attachment 869362View attachment 869363

I bet a main dealer would take two days and be 4-5k though
£2k tops
£4k if they are c u next tuesdays
Ten yrs ago newholland discs were rubbish
The tm 155 discs wore to the metal on one side only, a serious design flaw
I had a new 155 in 06, did 2000 hrs and 2 sets of discs , and it did-no trailer work.
Sold it at lanark
Bought a low houred tm190 privately with proper brakes

Why on earth would you waste time and money looking after something on contract hire? Hire the smallest model you can get away with put some wild, cheap, "Grassmen style" pilots on them and crack on.
The bit that amazes me is people buying ex hire tractors, thinking they've bought a bargin.
It all depends who's had it and how many hours they have put on the machine.
