Slightly different kettle of fish, this is what I was greeted to this morning. View attachment 945199

Now I know I own the mother but the lamb was untagged as it was newly born while Mr Badger came in and took him from his mother and 2 siblings (the fence high up was covered in wool where she’d obviously tried to defend the lambs) so who owns this lamb and pays for disposal cost? Can I bill the badger? Is it up to Highway’s department in the council to extract and pay for cremation or does the buck fall on me again?

Send it to the .Badger Trust.

I once shot a big Alsatian that was worrying our ewes. Didn't fancy digging the size of hole required.

Owner untraceable, no council dog catcher department round here anymore, Police didn't want it.

General consensus of opinion was that I should take he body to the main road and 'run over it' so it would become a highways department problem

I have wondered if that's how numerous badgers are to be found in eternal rest in roadside gutters round here. If they are all true RTA victims then some stretches of the main roads must be over-run with them on a nightly basis.

err, here, the blowfly maggots, foxes, wild pigs or eagles would soon clean it up

or, once enough traffic has run over it there would be nothing left anyway, its only a lamb. Not like its a bull or something

have you ever seen our rural roads & highways - roadkill is just an everyday occurrence. Ive even been known to put party hats on dead kangaroos on the road, in more exuberant times :ROFLMAO:

ps - what happens if a rabbit gets hit by a car ? Does someone have to dispose of it ?
