Why doesn’t Britain value its farmers? This crisis has shown we need to think very carefully about how the nation feeds itself

What the feck do you expect him to do?

I expect him to go beyond pointing out the problems as he sees them, and suggest some solutions. He doesn't.

James is skilfully making points to the benefit of all UK farmers, and i applaud him for it.
expecting him to reinvent society is just stupid.

I didn't say he needs to reinvent society. I didn't say that society needs reinventing. I said that he needs to go beyond 'skillfully making points' - ie moaning - and say what he thinks should happen regarding the points he makes. Otherwise his article is no better than so many posts on here: 'Woe is me'.

And I think that's a demanding parsimonious view, throwing such a burden on the poor beggar.

(and i'm pretty sure i recall you wanting to re-invent all kinds of perceived wrongs)

Not really. Having read the book he's clearly deeply thoughtful, he must have solutions in his head rather than just problems, surely ?

And yes, I do want to 're-invent all kinds of perceived wrongs', and I am quick to say what I believe the solutions to those wrong are, which rather reinforces my point regarding James' article. But we're talking about James, not me.

I'm clearly missing something here.
i thought he'd written a useful piece highlighting some shortfalls.
(whether on commish, or on spec, i know not)

I wasn't aware he'd been charged with fixing everything through this one written piece -it's a pretty tall order i can assure you.

As it happens, I understand he was lately charged with fixing things, by being asked onto some worthy review body, but quit almost immediately.
I'm happy to be disabused of this story though.
