Why is Manchester different?

Can anyone explain why there is so much debate about Manchester's tier status when the rest of the country has to accept the status/funding they are given?

I'm not anti-Manchester in any way, and I don't totally agree with all the restrictions, but seems strange that one city's mayor seems to hold more power than the government in this instance.

If don't agree on a solution the poor people of Manchester will be getting sick and unwell in big numbers and city will have to declare a major incident

Maybe, maybe not. The whole argument is about Burnham now, who is making a stand so that he can say that he, the Mayor of Manchester, stuck out to get more support for his peoples, which is always going to look well at the next election.
It’s about looking good & retaining power, not what may, or may not, be the best thing for the people of Manchester.

Won’t look so good when Mancunians are looking for hospital beds.

That seems to be the problem. Covid ICU bed numbers according to NHS manager are nothing like numbers being quoted by BO-JO. Manchester press try to verify but get stone walled. Only a month ago figures where declared on daily basis. Certainly North West being used as guinea pig for the rest of the country. Been on lockdown since July and certainly not working.

That seemed to be the case last time as well. Very odd.

It's funny how Bozza can easily dole out a £100 million at a time to dubious folk (friends & relatives) who claim they can manufacture PPE and lets not even mention track and trace. But when it comes to keeping northern folk with a roof over there heads and food he suddenly gets very tight fisted. :scratchhead:
