What's the widest tyres you could put on a t6.175 50 kph.the rims are 15x38" rears and 12x28" fronts and currently have 420/70/28 and 520/70/38 I would like to go up to a set of 480/70/28 and 580/70/38 if possible without changing the rims?

I’m certain you will get a 20.8 on a 15 inch rim or what ever it is in new money and probably a 18.4 on the front.

I was thinking that but my Tyre man told me the side walls would be squeezed in too much and the Tyres would start to crack

520 is a 20.8 your next size will be a 580 but that's up an aspect ratio to 75 . Then it'll be a 600 which will be the same ratio as your 520/70 is

I swapped from 520/70r 38's to 600r 38's on the same rims and working just fine.

There's a list of accepted rim widths for sizes of tyres. If you put them on a narrower one you can kiss goodbye to any warranty claim. It's not worth it if fitting new tyres.
If it's just an older classic getting hand me downs off a front line tractor then it's fine.

You could consider going taller, 85 profile, if the tyres fit under the mudguards? Without checking a tyre catalogue 15 inch sounds quite narrow even for a 520? I know Trelleborg do some sizes in a NRO, narrow rim option, probably some other manufacturers too.

tire fitter told me I could replace 16.9 r38 with 18.4r38 with no problems, he did ask what the tractor ws doing and it wasn't doing any real heavy work for long periods. was mostly for fert and general yard tractor. I haven't done it yet as it that made me question how wide I could go all round.

I assume if the tractor was to work with a tanker or heavy haulage work he would have turned it down and stuck with 16.9.

would any of that apply to you
