I can never remember without looking it up whether this is a small, large or Essex skipper, we get all 3 in the hay meadows.

Weighing and tagging our barn owns today. 5 chicks well feathered with good weight. All should fledge I hope unless the weather goes bad.

Did ours yesterday. 2 ringed,+ one juvenile flew away, one dead. Good weights - it's a good year for voles if what our cat keeps bringing back is anything to go by! Great to have them breeding again after the owl population crash last year with that dreadful cold spring.

very distinctive and a bit picky about where they choose to live, they seem to thrive there.

Last night turned off the tv and heard something making noise in the chimney. It a closed insert stove. So dismantled the baffles to get a view up the flue but could see nothing just hear the scratching still. All could do was to close the door on the stove and go to bed. had a look half an hour later and found this in the stove

We know that there is a nest in the barn of this little owl.The adult owls have been terrorizing the dog and the cats for the last 2 weeks in the evenings and night
