I can never remember without looking it up whether this is a small, large or Essex skipper, we get all 3 in the hay meadows.
That's a lovely pictureWhite legged damselflies on the river which is renowned as a site for them. They spread throughout the farm at this time of year, even walking through the wheat you see loads of them on a warm still day.

Did ours yesterday. 2 ringed,+ one juvenile flew away, one dead. Good weights - it's a good year for voles if what our cat keeps bringing back is anything to go by! Great to have them breeding again after the owl population crash last year with that dreadful cold spring.Weighing and tagging our barn owns today. 5 chicks well feathered with good weight. All should fledge I hope unless the weather goes bad.

Thank you - but without digital photography both to dump all the out of focus ones and also to be able to crop and zoom the photo you wouldn't be seeing them!!@Princess Pooper you take some fabulous close up shots, thanks for sharing
