Will I need different cutting discs for steel and aluminium or it’s universal?

I’ve recently got a cordless Black & Decker 125mm Angle Grinder, I’ve been researching the features and the safety precautions needed to operate it.

One thing I’m still uncertain about is the disc needed for cutting steel and aluminium. Can I buy a metal cutting disc from Amazon and use it for both steel and aluminium or would I need to buy an individual steel cutting disc for steel and aluminium cutting disc for aluminium? I’ve been reading some Amazon reviews and some people mention things like ‘works great for cutting aluminium and steel!’ which gives me the impression that it’s suitable for both material.

If those reviews are wrong and I actually need to buy individual disc for steel and aluminium, say I were to find a metal object and I had no clue if it’s made out of steel or aluminium, what disc should I first use test what material it is? Because I feel like if I were to use an aluminium cutting disc to cut steel and I had no idea, wouldn’t the disc just rupture? So should I use steel cutting disc first to test an unknown metal object and once I know the material I adjust accordingly?

thanks!

Discs are classified for the materials that they cut, metal, steel, stone etc.
A stone disc will cut steel, but never use a steel disc to cut stone.
If you are cutting steel and a little aluminum that will be fine, however a steel disc will clog with alum if used extensively for soft metal.
If you are cutting a lot of aluminum use an aluminum disc...................................................................................................
Buy the best quality you can afford and for a battery grinder I recommend you use a thin stainless disc but don't grind with them............................................................................................................

just get the correct disc for cutting aluminum if you have little experience of working with aluminum and dont grind it as mentioned above it clogs the disc and throws the particles about and the dust is not good for your health also

cutting steel just use the thin cutting disc but myself i use a wood cutting disc for aluminum, taking care to avoid or limit contamination if going to weld it a 125 cordless will find it hard going if your cutting any quantity of aluminum

Seen a tip for cutting Aluminum with a grinding disc, give the disc a coating of wax which will help stop it getting bunged up with Aluminium.

Interesting cause I was trawling through Forch website looking for things to make an order worth while only last night and noticed they do an aerosol spray to spray on grinding and cutting discs to stop clogging, I never heard of such a thing before imo!
