Will you keep wearing a mask when you don't have to?

We are home testing (lateral flow) twice weekly due to having two children at school. If we get a positive I will gladly isolate and follow the rules for the 2 week period. All the kits are supplied foc and its very easy.

However what I will not do is scan in on the app if I am out because a few months ago I had the call I had to isolate because I had scanned in at a pub whilst sitting outside and they traced a positive case. I took a lateral flow test straight away and it was negative so carried on as per normal. We had a knock at the door and it was the covid police making sure I was isolating, which I was not and not even there when they called. They would not accept the lateral flow test results saying they were not accurate. Next thing we know that evening plod knocked on the door and read the riot act but were more understanding than the covid checkers. So now I just pretend to scan in or give incorrect details as I am not going through that again.

'Follow the rules'.

Think on who makes the 'rules'.

No. Testing is voluntary as per govt/ dfe guidelines.

I'll have to check when I get home but I am fairly sure our school has expected everybody to do it. I don't recall it being stated as an option. I know early on we could opt in or out of them being tested in school by staff members but I am fairly sure the home testing wasn't opt in or out. I'll check though.

How the school has dressed it up is up to them, however the inschool LF tests ought to have required parental consent for children under 16, and current home testing is not compulsory. Nor can children be kept from school if they don't test.

In the same way that in school masks were "recommended" but not compulsory, the wording is all important.
