we lost the big yield potential in the early spring when it was very dry here, definitely dropped some tillers at the time

also had a bit of bydv first time ive seen it here in the last 10 plus years, hasn’t hit yield too much though i reckon

What variety of barley ?
Two row or six?
We held back on the growth regulator
due to stress at the time but ended up reasonable
yield and mountains of straw.
Oats ready to go here and earliest wheat a week off(weather permitting).

not added up weighbridge tickets from last 2 fields but they are better than the first hoping we may average over 8.7t/ ha which will be good for that soil / less than ideal weather year

That's not bad for winter barley most years.
I hope people who haven't harvested their barley miss
this heavy rain forecast in some areas.

Did a headland yesterday to fill a trailer as we needed some form rolling for the cattle. It was only just about fit , 14.5 % moisture. Rather flat due to a bit to much N after muck. Combine said 8.5t ha and it’s surprisingly accurate after what it said our wheat yielded last year vs what actually went into lorries. ( accidental mass balance !) didn’t do any more as had 80 acres of hay to get done before the weekend. Hopefully we won’t get too much rain over the weekend.

First field 24ha 8.04 t/ha 11.2-15%
Second field 25ha 8.65 t/ha - 11.3-13.5%

LOTS of straw !! (no growth regulator !!)

2 best bits to go today (15ha and 12ha) today and we are done on Barley

Happy with that as not spent a lot on this, on very light sandy soil, zero-till, a cheap winter herbicide, x 2 fungicides, and 160kgs N
is that zero tilled after wheat?

Its not exactly a con is it? Con implies they are trying to trick you. It's just a more expensive product. Many farmers are using it, and have done for about 10 years. Nobody is putting a gun to their head.
It is your paying alot more money for less seed that yields no more a con in my opinion.

Oh I see, so you fell victim to a con and you're embarrassed about it. Caveat Emptor! Still not sure you understand what a con is but never mind! Onwards and upwards!
Ok it's my opinion, do you grow hybrid barley, do you grow hybrid wheat as well.
