Wood fired hot tubs, any good?

Currently looking into a couple of wood fired hot tubs for our log cabins to try and boost some bookings, but it seems a bit of a minefield.

Has anyone got any and how do they find them?

Are there any recommendations on manufacturers or ones to avoid?

Most likely looking at a couple of 2 seaters to start at our smaller cabins with less bookings but may want a 6 seater too if they really take off.
I've been told 100% to go for fiberglass lining, but what about internal vs external burners?

Very interested to hear of any first hand experiences.

Looking for as little hassle with them as possible which I'm sure is the same as everyone.

Thanks in advance

Used one once that took ages to heat up then was too hot. So then you had to put cold in then it cooled off by this time the fire was out and got cold. My girlfriend has friends who have a wood fired one and they love it it seams better although iv no idea about it.

On page 3 of this post I posted a couple of photos of my home made wood fired hot tub. It is based on an old ibc and was inexpensive to make, works a treat (for what it is, ie, a bit of occasional fun) and is cheap to run on scrap wood. It proves that an external heat exchanger works just fine, though maybe less efficient than an internal one. If you search youtube for DIY hot tubs there are loads of ideas out there, you may be able to make one out of a cattle trough or similar that connects to your holiday lets to it's location, and would be seen as a unique feature and not just a cheap option. Just a thought.

I'd avoid hot tubs altogether. Especially if you have clean them out yourself. People tend to have sex in them and that can make for some grim Saturday morning cleans.
I know someone with a couple of holiday let's with hot tubs, the story's he's told me about cleaning them out !

Think the op was after advice re:types of and working & using them, not what you may well find...,probably will find..., no definitely will... 😆

Yes I know all about sex pond antics ha.

I was hoping to have them a bit DIY. Guests can fill and empty themselves and give them a hosedown at the end with deposit. No chemicals etc.

At 800l for the 2 person tubs it won't take them too long off a hosepipe.

More after specific info on the wood fired type rather than how mingy they are in general!

I stayed on a farm in Yorkshire that had several for the holiday lets.
Excellent.
Fired with pallets, two fills had it nearly too hot to be in, he cleaned and set the fire each morning, as well as draining and refilling which he said was cheaper and easier than the chemicals required .
He was importing them I think
Definitely an enjoyable stay.
He also had a log fired sauna which easily got so hot you couldn't stay in it

When I lived in the most amazing place at the very top of Douglas Road in Tasmania we had a ‘bush-bath’.
These are a cast iron bath under which you light a fire.
Ours was filled with solar hot, another whacky invention🙃, you slowly cooked yourself and as long as you could reach the log pile you could lie there for a long time or ‘till your hands and feet became painfully wrinkly🤣😎😎😎

Takes half a day and a lot of logs to get it warm, and then they seem to suddenly roast you. Cool idea, shite in reality. Maybe a farm 2000 and a round bale in it to feed two or three might work and be quicker in heating them, and a buffer tank for surplus

Hi, I know a few farms who have diversified into log cabins and they have all said the wood fired hot tubs get the bookings in. Folks on holiday want better and different treats than what they get at home and are willing to pay extra for them. More bookings, higher weekly prices and happier clients.
There are quite a few hot tub dealers who are moving into the log fired hot tub market so you are spoilt for choice.
You supply the first bag of wood and then charge them for the rest, bit of profit in that as well. Size will depend on the number of beds in your cabin.

Ferrensby, hosted by Gillian on air BNB. These hot tubs were incredible, one fill of pallet wood, then a second had them up to 40 - 50 odd degrees if memory serves.

cracking place to stay, and I have no affiliation at all other than staying there once.

It's a while since I looked into it but I think you'd have to have a record of the cleaning of them, along with what you used (suitable chemicals etc) to satisfy the insurance companies. When your new guests get the sh1!s as your previous guests didn't fully wash theirs out of the love tub it might get quite awkward, they're an absolute breeding ground for all sorts of stuff a lot smaller than babies...

I have three electric hot tubs on lets .The management is not to bad but you do need to check every day and drain down
between lets .The running cost are getting expensive and it takes 3 hrs to change over 3 tubs. The wood heat ones will be
much harder to keep the water save ,just imagine being in a hot bath and letting it cool down then reheating .YOU NEED
CHEMICAL IN WATER OR YOU ARE ASKING FOR BIG TROUBLE!!!!
