Wood worm treatment

Any recommendations on the best woodworm treatment? Have the roof space exposed at the moment and there’s plenty of it about, could be old damage but who knows, as well to spray it while it’s accessible.

“Environmentally safe”
This doesn’t instill confidence in me regarding its effectiveness 🤣
I suppose setting fire to the roof will get rid of the woodworm. Hence passing on my suppliers info.
You asked for a ‘best woodworm treatment’. I have used this with good effect.
Killgerm are leading Pest Control suppliers.
I suppose Dettol, diesel, creosote and strawberry jam could work but you may need to refine the mix.
Back to you.

Was just a joke, don’t take it personally.

I use Cuprinol woodworm every 5 years throughout the house on any timber beams. ie if year ends in 0 or 5. Normally do it in middle of summer just before we go on holiday then the fumes have a week to dissipate. Make sure you have full spray PPE including mask and glasses as its quite nasty stuff.

This timber won’t be accessible again after the walls are boarded back up so looking for something as long lasting as possible, short term smell not an issue as can probably be done when there’s no one in the house.

Was told if you have a live infestation then its best to treat with Cuprinol. Could then use boron as a preventative. Not convinced the Boron was working so have resorted to using Cuprinol with good results but is now getting a rediculous price.
Is there an easy way of telling if it’s live or old?

In that case I would spray 3 coats of cuprinol leaving a day to dry between each spray to give deep penetration. Warning it will not be cheap.

If you have fine sawdust it will be live. If its old you will have dust gathered in the holes. Dont do half a job as anywhere you dont treat will be an ideal infestation place in the future. I have had beams that look solid but turn to dust when tested with a screwdriver. The joy of having a grade 2 listed building.

I used boron, sprayed twice, absolutely soaked timber both times, not sure if I did something wrong, but it was hard to get through sprayer, it seemed to crystallise.

I see that you have to possess a ticket to purchase water based LP from Killgerm.

I forgot that, sorry! I am so used to pressing the BIN button and whatever I have ordered simply arriving at my door.

From a personal perspective;
I sprayed my house roof in 2008. The Killgerm liquid did the job.
No more little dust trails🤣
In the end I simply ripped everything out (except the rafters) and burnt all the timber as it was in poor condition with under spec sizes and more holes than wood from 160 years of the woodworm having a great time😢

I have used LP or its predecessor on many other occasions with success. Even sistering the weakest timbers. It is simply another tool for a selected job, rather like the tools I use in my professional role to eradicate cockroach and bed bug infestations. None of them cheap but my goodness are one or two effective!👍

In the professional world there is no messing about with half cocked jobs and often very expensive treatments. Customers would not stand for it.

Cuprinol it is then.
DIY available. Sorted.
