Ok ok for those that like to make work buy an auto and flick the shifter into sport and nudge up and down to change gear as needed, if what you buy is really posh you mite get flappy paddles behind the steering wheel.
either way there is no need at all for that hip and knee joint destroying 3rd pedal.

I’m absolute opposite hate power shift tractors. but gear levers and 3or4 splits brilliant especially with speed matching.car and pickup automatic all the way.
Each to their own. I've no problem working a manual tractor, but for fieldwork I like my Dyna 6. Tractor gearboxes were never as refined as car gearboxes, often hard to get into gear so if it does it itself that's alright.

Automatic stop/start that is switched on by default.
I am not saying that automatic stop/start is a bad thing but forgetting to switch it off has nearly killed me several times.
Some of the junctions in the Westcountry donkey tracks/lanes have almost no visibility of traffic approaching from the sides and when you pull out you really need to get on with it or you will be T-boned. Having the engine suddenly decide to cut out at just the wrong moment is terrifying!

Game with IVT gearboxes.
Hmm I was ploughing the other day, muttering to myself cos I was using the semi powershift tractor cos the vario one was hooked on the drill. Then I realised how pathetic I was as I could have been faced with a collection of 3ft long levers sprouting out the cab floor like years ago.

pressing a button to change gear and moving my hands to operate the Left hand reverser and manual spool lever isn’t such a chore really. Still nice wen I get back in the vario and it’s all on the joystick though.

i've got flappy paddles on mine, (ooh missus ) and they only work when gearbox is up to temp and the speed/revs parameters fit. it is almost a waste of time as i would like the box to change up at less than the 2300rpm it does on auto. golf sv diesel.

I make the headland big enough and I don’t have to touch the 3 foot levers, or the clutch pedal when turning.
I think cars and tractor technology peaked in the mid 1990s, after that manufacturers built in obsolescence at 10,000 hours or 200,000 kms. JD were doing it earlier, Valtra/Valmet didn’t start doing it until agco took them over. Modern technology is great when it works but when it breaks it’s a big expensive POS.

Agreed, I hate auto start/stop, fine in nose to tail traffic but bloody dangerous on a roundabout or busy junction.

Weve had people here who get proud about having a tiny ploughing headland, this involves skimming the hedge with front wheel, lots of indi braking, and depending on sprayer size often puts the ins and outs right on the future trampoline

TBH anything to stop more weeds growing.

For us anything after Pre/Post is a waste of money and time.

I would establish a grass margin around the problem fields, drill it with grass and keep it topped. This will ensure no riff raff takes up residence. Also, topping prior to the combine going in will stop seeds being dragged into the field itself.
