I think @Pan mixer would begin to be drying up at that time of year but your right still time to get a crop if sown in June maybe two if you are lucky.Keep burning off and working the top couple of inch then bang in your westerwold in June should still be time for a decent crop of silage
Westerwold would only be for a year but I would be drilling it with a longer term grass mix in the autumn for 3 or 4 years probably, that flush in the above photo is only the tip of the iceberg after 30 years of wheat.Ouch. With that kind of population you are likely to have a fair bit growing in your silage. As long as you mow it before it flowers you'll be fine. An intensive ley like Westerwolds is just what blackgrass doesn't like. How long will the ley be in for?
