Weather forecast looks terrible for the rest of the week and weekend. Rubbed out samples 24-25% a significant amount of shed grains on the floor, Crusoe looks like it’s sprouting and I suspect 2nd wheat Skyfall next door will at least of lost its hagberg although not obviously sprouting yet.
Drier is up to date but do I want high drying costs on feed wheat.

I think I’m going to start at 3pm, am I mad???

The trouble is, some of the moisture contents mentioned on here , take a serious amount of drying time and fuel, whilst also putting strain on machinery . How much a ton will getting it from 24 to 15 cost.

This is what I’ve been thinking about.
I guess a commercial store is something like £2.30/t/% so £23/t with 1.25% weight loss per 1% dried.

Fag packet calculation but if I treat it as feed wheat and turn the flame up on the drier I’ll burn about 1,500l of fuel a 17hour day and achieve perhaps 7t/hr though our 20t/hr continuous flow drier so that’s £825 fuel for 119t of grain £6.93/t plus 10% weight loss. A bit of electricity on top, no significant wear and tear, depreciation there if I dry it or not.

If feed just leave to dry maybe in field but milling group 1 ,hagbergs, bushel weight , protein etc drop by the day.
Along with black and sprouting corn ,a years worth of work gone for a day or 2 to harvest?

How many acres and combine capacity .
Personally if all mine was standing, I wouldn’t be cutting it at those levels . I only have a 12 ton masters drier, which would be running for about 3 hrs to dry 24% wheat . I’ve also only got 150 acres of wheat, so horses for courses

No, half a loaf is better than no loaf at in a forthnights time. .Or as my father used to say " better to cut it wet the first day and get most of it than to cut it as porridge the last day as a clearing excerise . Drive on !!!
