Oddly enough that is a clay cap and can be quite sticky and acidic! But on the whole the Downs are very free draining

You can have pure calcium carbonate flints next to acidic soil on the clay caps. I'm wary of soil tests that grind the whole sample up including stones for this very reason. SOYL use NRM whose sample results showed a pH of 8.1. After finding clubroot in osr a couple of years ago we tested it properly and found a pH of 5.8...

Plenty cut up here at moistures,meter won’t read

The horror story of 2008, the meter wouldn't read moisture so we oven tested it using scientific digital scales and and it measured 28% moisture. It felt like damp sugar puffs, but that was the lowest moisture at which it would come out of the discharge auger. Lots of stories of burst augers and driers where the wet grain had 'set' overnight which had to be cut open and dug out. "What doesn't kill us makes us stronger"...
