An United Ireland is Unworkable. Everything Irish is unworkable. Confused, confounded conflicted and hindered by the weight of its own history within itself.

Too many overseas interests stirring the pot.

Twenty years on from the GFA Northern Ireland needs a clean sheet, a fresh start - it won’t get it. It won’t be allowed to get it, the powers that be will see to it that it remain remain a Mad Max-esque political wasteland.

A united Ireland is unworkable? I'm sorry but that's absolute rubbish. An all Ireland economy would benefit us more than the Uk ever will. Not to mention the EU subs we would get again.
As part of the UK , NI will continue to be a neglected sibling of a slowly failing family. .

Good luck, but why should you need the support of anyone from outside ? Your original question was obviously directed at at your fellow countrymen but they seem strangely quiet or are they the thirteen people who have voted?.

mostly correct, but the EU is verging towards a more liberal economy, those subsidies are drying up fast.

You started the thread, presumably happy enough to receive opinions both in support of your question or contrary. I’ve gave an opinion.

You obviously have taken umbrage to the first part of my post and ignored the rest of what I said.

A United Ireland is far from straight forward. I’m not a fan of the Tories, even less so Labour.

Would we be better served by a superior class of people within Fine Gael? Fianna Fáil?

Doubt it.

Northern Ireland at the moment is little else than a cudgel to beat others over the head.

I'm open to hearing other side's of the arguement of course. From a farming perspective, surely being part of the EU is better? There is talk of a universal basic income for NI farmers albeit at a massively reduced level compared to our subs. In my opinion the south would care more about the north than London ever will.

I also believe that unrestricted access and trading within the EU to be very important to Northern Irish agriculture.

The Southern government although as corrupt as it is, it certainly seems to try that bit harder for Irish farming families - the fodder schemes prove that, however have you seen the state of the border counties roads?

How much they would actually invest and put back into Northern Ireland I’m not so sure, it isn’t like the reunionification of East and West Germany, and it would need a similar monumental investment that has taken decades for an industrial powerhouse country to pay off, and to equal it and be successful that’s whats needed.

Care to back up your corruption allegation???

Charlie is dead!! Bertie is a dead man walking. There has been quite a clear out of these rodents.

Current lot might be clownish at times, but you cannot paint them with corruption because of a past lot of spivs.

Like I say, not unique to Irish Politics but It’s still there.. they just can’t help themselves.

I'm the unusual combination of being a right of centre British republican... the Anglo-Celtic peoples have far more in common with our cousins in the US, Canada, NZ and Australia than with the Europeans. I'd be happy to see a single 'State' of Ireland or the states of Northern and Southern Ireland, next to the states of England, Wales, Scotland, Queensland, Virginia, North Island, Pennsylvania etc. etc. etc. :)

We have more or less the same language, legal system and form of democracy. It would remove the 'chip on shoulder' form the anti-English, allow those who fear independence a great big economy to hide in, pretty much guarantee security - and probably world peace too - and make what so many Remainers claim to value very easy, i.e. freedom of travel without visas...

It's much more rational than the EU as an idea.
