Wr450/kiehin flat side cr carb

Bit of a long shot, but I know there's a few bikers on here, @Farmer Roy has one and might know!

My wr450f had been laid up for a bit, I got one of those all balls carb rebuild kits, stripped cleaned, new jets etc.

Can I get the thing to run right now, won't run off choke.

I've had carb apart more times than I want to think about now.

Then I noticed that one of the passages from a jet is open into the top of the float chamber, I think there should be a brass bung in the hole!

It's possible I could have blown it out with the airline? If it should of been there!!

Know the feeling. Cleaning a Honda carb with an airline, there was a pop and something pinged off the asbestos roof in the sheep shed. If it was covering the jet , wouldn't there have been another in the refurb kit?

It looks like the drilling the should carry the fuel from the jet to the Venturi, the hole I circled is in the top of the chamber so would draw air not petrol?

Trouble is it's a £500 carb so I don't want to 'mend' the hole if it should be there!
On the other side there's a drilling blanked with a brass bung.

I've tried Google images but can't find a photo of that bit!

hey - sorry, my WR was the first of the FI ones ( 😳 is it really that old ? 2012 - I need to get out more ).
While I have pulled apart a number of Kiehen carbs in the past, I’m not familiar with those ones

maybe a dirt bike forum would be the best place, ADVrider, Thumpertalk etc

but, as suggested, there will be countless YouTube vids out there if you have time. Personally, I’d try dirt bike forums first - even if you have to join some first

Cheers, your right I was thinking of joining thumper talk , seems be a lot of good advice on there, just need a picture taken from the right angle really!

Wish I'd bought a fuel injection one now, bet that's pretty good isn't it?

After watching several rebuilds can confirm nothing is missing there! Stripped the middle section and gaskets look poor in there, don't get those bits in the rebuild kit 🤔

It has been a long time since I’ve touched one of these carbs but if your problem is as simple as setting. The main jet is altered by raising or lowering the needle by moving it up or down with the circlip. The idle jet is altered by turning the choke knob a few clicks in or out & it sounds like yours may have been accidentally altered making it run lean.

I think I might have tracked down the problem?
The carb can be split again between the top of the float chamber and the Venturi, it's got security screws holding it together, so they don't really want you to open it!

The gaskets/o rings in there have gone all to pieces and blocked the pilot jet drilling between the jet and the Venturi, kiehin don't supply those gaskets, which is helpful, they're available from America or Europe aftermarket on eBay. Derek from CMS in Exeter is trying to find some for me hopefully a bit quicker!
