What happens then? They lock out too late so the load swings and pulls the truck over I guess.

i would expect the load indicator would have known that the leg was not out and it would go into an overload and therfore prohibit slewing to that position.
Obviously, lorry loader cranes are not as sophisticated as i thought

On job last year, borrowed clients forklift, new JCB, slung and lifted Grain Dresser of mezzanine Floor, then locked out, had to then use my 03 JCB, to re sling and redeem situation, whilst in the air,
Would have been an interesting Risk assessment, method statement, !!!

Why not just press the override button?

what's a safe load indicator got to do with a lock out

just terminology.
The SLI (Safe Load Indicator) and RCI (Rated Capacity Indicator) both monitor the load AND prevent working in unsafe sectors.
For example. The RCI on excavators are set so that they prevent lifting if it will result in the SWL being in excess of 90% of the load required to lift the first wheel, or 75% of the load required to lift the second wheel.

For wherever reason wouldn’t let me, Jib in or lower, to recover situation, and yes lift was well within loaders capabilities,

sorry, the system was either at fault (should have been investigated post incident) or the lift was not within the capacity of the machine.

I suspect the former if it would not let you boom in, though im not sure what machine it is

slight digression, but all the incidents i am aware of in the railway are when the RCI (see other post) has been disabled.
I am not aware of a lifting operation going wrong when the RCI was working correctly.
Different with dynamic loading using a handler say to load wheat into a lorry with a bucket. If we all stopped and put handbrake on before lifting the boom or tipping the bucket you would be right. But it would also take 10x longer to load a lorry.

for dynamic duties (lift and carry) capacities are reduced to 66% of static loadings, to ensure it can move and work at the same time
