In your last group of pictures there seems a company called 'haydons' from biddulph in stoke on Trent. Any idea what year those photo's would be?? I'm only a young pup but it's a name which I have never heard around here! Be intrigued to ask around

On the web there are loads of lovely photos of this Company; you can see the genuine camaraderie in the groups of drivers in loads of the photos. I would say the photos largely are post war to late sixties, a few more recent 70's . I think they may have continued longer / still trade with coaches and removals. The livestock side was closed in 1989 according to a press cutting (attached here)

Came across these on another forum

Some good shots of West Country markets of old and some familiar names amongst these

heritages are still going strong, also got some fantastic cattle.
trotts are still around too i think, not sure on any of the others but not really a lorry man myself

Yes I know Barry Wooff and his operation

I can remember the old depot in Bruton itself.

Barry has built that business well and is a Renault truck agent and Pezzaioli agent too

Eddie Harper worked for him and Joe Gray at Finchampstead before that. Last I heard he was up at B + W show ground although I think he still works as a consultant representing the livestock haulage industry at the RHA and to Government

I was at college with Charlie Routh whilst his late Father Richard was at Godminster

Neville lives just across the road, used to have all the lorries parked round the village, with lions and stuff from longleat in them :) although that was before I was born.
moved to halfway between here and bruton now. Eddie is still in the area, does training these days too. built a housing estate on their old yard in bruton.

small world :)
