I can see your point. I think we all are on a par as far as spraying goes tbh with the large areas we all cover now if we weren't semi organised there would be some cock ups. But I think the point @Daniel is it's ok on the day of the test showing them all the elaborate things you do like a jug test every nozzle change, fill out sheets as you leave field, wear full ppe , wash all cans and spray all washings out on an under sprayed bit.
But let's be honest do we?
Trouble is this is where the powers that be get there ideas from so if you do enter and come up with an idea like going to the house for a shower after filling . the bigwigs think that's great and we all should.
I am not taking anything away from winners etc.
Posted from someone who commits the cardinal sin of maybe filling out all paper work at the end of the day and stack empty cans to drain later.
There I have admitted it

i would say the judges are not daft or unaware that they are seeing the best of but does it matter ? the best man on the day is still the best man on the day !

anyone who thinks its easy and could bluff their way through for a day should enter and show us they are right

Good news, you're soon going to need to carry your generic tablet device in the sprayer to log in to gatekeeper so your movements can be synced to the cloud and RBI can flog your chemical use to agrii so they can adjust pricing on most used chems accordingly.... It's not like they haven't got form for that sort of behaviour.

We've got a dedicated sprayer store, I get recs sent straight to my phone, I follow them, any of you lot can come and have a poke around whenever you like, I'm quite pleased with it for our little operation.

One of the reasons that FSOOTY is on TFF and other social media this year and not in FW (where it has been for many, many years) is to open the selection and judging process up more than ever before. It should be more open and engaging than it ever has been before

Hopefully as entering is now as simple as clicking a banner here there will be plenty of entries to choose the best finalist from.

The interview of each finalist will be filmed and posted here with detail about them and TFF members will be able to vote as a member of the panel to help select the winer, so @Daniel if you spot a bluffer one of the video's or interviews for the first time you have the change to say so !

It's a very long standing competition with great kudos for the finalist and winner, I believe it's about time that awards meant something again in our industry as they seem to have been taken away from us all in recent years as fancy dinners etc become cash cows with hugely biased commercial agenda for publishers.

Lets get back to keeping it real and make all get involved unmaking sure the best man (of lady !) wins !

Aha, so you've teased it away from the FW? Quite a coup?

Well, good luck everyone, may the best human win.

We were asked if we could do it and after a bit of head scratching said yes ! Great to see companies like Syngenta understanding that todays farmer is on average a lot more digital savvy and that such platforms offer many more opportunities than print these days like letting us all get involved in picking that winner

Think its quite exciting !

now get entering, i want to see the video of you bluffing your way through judging !! ;)

Having judged regionally for this competition and can say with confidence that all sprayer operators are NOT on a par with each other.

Some of the comments above are just twoddle, to all the negative ones why don't you enter and have a go! Maybe then you wouldn't criticise so much, then again............
OK all the above are fair comments and I certainly did not want to take anything away from the winners and the competition at all.
I will possibly have a crack at it one day but at the moment although I have a reasonable set up and its safe, passes assurance etc and I would back my in field skills to be as good as anyone ( my customers would tell me other wise). I don't think it would stand out as having anything special.
I would like to have a covered filling area and shed for sprayer, rain water harvesting, and bio beds etc but time and finances restrict it s bit.
Now I know this is not a necessity, but I suppose my point was that you need something extra to stand out from us all other than just being good at spraying?

I take it the TWB sprayer man has entered?

Maybe next year, I'm still not convinced of these myriad farming awards value, there are dozens of them.

That and I don't have the time at the moment to make sure I win! ;)

I would love him to, think both my guys would do well, but think maybe not appropriate if I have any involvement in the competition ! and them being part of it would look great on my contract farming CV !

i know of a previous winner who ended up so stressed he now prefers to drive a taxi in yarmouth
I know of one who packed up farming and legged to New Zealand although he's now back ;)
He cant believe it will be 20 years next year that he won and a judge in 2002.

To all those thinking of entering or hesitating , hesitates no more and enter it's a great competition and can be a life changer ;)

I would like to know if Agronomists can nominate operators, if not at present there ought to be a class where they can! agronomists know those
operators who get the job done and really care for the business they work for!

Have a word with the operators you think are worthy and get them to enter, it's their individual entry as it's a test of their knowledge .
