Different world down here. Neighbour cut some wheat today at 28%, then moved on to scrape up some flatish barley. Warm very humid air so limited drying out of standing crops.

My humidity controlled fans have only just started for the first time in a week. Linseed sprayed off at long last. Just 150 acres of it to cut. Finished wheat 2nd Sept.

"Linseed sprayed off at long last."

My sunflowers are now not a pretty sight, Brisel.

I should like to harvest them, but it's not always been possible every year.

One time we thought smart and left them until the first really exceptionally hard frost - overhead and underfoot conditions then being absolutely perfect - only for my combine to refuse to start. :giggle:

I'm pretty sure they get a better price up there, there must be at least £15/t transport differential between there and here and £20/25 to you.

I don't reallly get that. East Anglia has more supply than demand but there are lots of mills & maltsters there too. None of us are much more than £10 from the nearest port either.

Edit; Just looked up some old notes. BOCM (as they were then) claimed to be coughing up to LIFFE + £2 for feed wheat ex farm in Wales/Shropshire but could pay LIFFE - £7 in the East or South East.

That difference pays for a fair bit of drying in the wet west...........

Sometimes basis will widen from an exchange. It has done last few years. Eg France a few years ago poor quality meant MATIF spec was meaningless. Almost same this year?! Year before last Yorkshire homes paying £4-5 over LIFFE. Likewise some think LIFFE may rally not only due to weaker sterling but also UK better quality - despite it being a standard feed contract. It should t happen, but is a symptom of something not quite right. The dislocation from futures is something I think will only increase going forward.

£200/t by 2018 end as inflation bites !!

Finished Combining Last Night!

Only 50 odd acres cut this harvest, combine performed fine, other than routine maintenance and having to change a bearing that was squeaking as it was on the way out.

It's nice to see the combining time coming, but it's nice to get finished too. :)

Going to have a sniff this afternoon on our remaining 10 acres of WW and then shoot over to a customer who has his last 20 acres to do. Was testing at 18% late yesterday afternoon. Trying to not use the drier at all this season but fear the last 10 acres will thwart my cunning plan!!!!
