Scotland beef efficiency scheme

What I dont get about the whole thing is that you get paid per hectare instead of just looking at bcms for calves born. There also seems little thought of efficiency as with oir own head is referenced at 56 cows in 2015 but by next year we will have double that number but they wont allow an increase to our reference number! Seems set up for the big farmers again that can reduce herd and still get paid the same. Typical really.

That's because the whole thing was cobbled together to get it as pillar 2 environmental funding under reducing greenhouse gasses/emissions guise. Can't be seen by EU to be giving out headage payments.

Talking of emission though. If something looks like s**t and smells like s**t then it usually is. Not really surprised it is running into unforeseen issue such as calves away to mart before the powers that be spot a big dod of the aforementioned heading towards the fans next to their cosy office desks.

Glad I took the Duncan Bannatyne approach on this one.

They should just scrap it as a bad job and stick the money on the calf sub.

Apparently if you had 100 calves last year but now downsize to 20 you still can tissue test 20% and get the full payment as it based on calves per acre. Who said slipper farming was dead.

Hardly likely to be a big issue this scenario though is it?

A pretty paltry payment over 3 years is hardly likely to attract many people to go into a scheme thinking if I go into this then scale back by 75% then I'm a real clever chap that's worked the system!

I certainly wouldn't be using the beef efficiency scheme as my clincher on whether to expand or reduce numbers by drastic amounts either way.

Very true however like sfp it isn't really aimed at the production it is trying to help the efficiancy of.

I realise it isn't and can't be truly coupled but just makes you wonder...... more principle than anything
