To be honest this is what most folk should do, it need not be hugely expensive to do, either.
Is that not a royal pita at harvest though? Suppose ok if theres always someone in the yard

Its strange that they hate dogs. And the reverse is true. All our dogs have hated them. Years ago one climbed out of the van, uninvited, when he saw Twm he went to climb back in but the dog had his backside. He just left! The last dog we had always followed the van up the yard and watched it all the way out.We have dogs running around the yard, whenever they run up to a pikey vechile I always say "just be careful the dogs can bite" in a friendly manner, they wouldn't bite a bone but it seems to make pikeys think about things

They can be latched open on busy days by sending a text , but pressing a button or dialling a number when half way up farm drive means they are open when you get there and isn’t really a lot of effort
Anyone who needs legitimate access like employees, agronomist etc all get the number so they can dial themselves in - you can restrict hours or remove permissions and check logs to see who came and went when if you have need to do so
Makes the yard feel 1000% more secure - seems mad they were ever open and anyone could drive or wander around our yard in the past now
I get them asking the same. My reply is I am skint after fitting the cctv and remote alarm system.Don`t often get them looking for scrap, but regularly get them wanting to tarmac the farm road which does actually need doing
I always use the same answer, if they want to tarmac it they are welcome to but don`t expect to get paid cos I`m skint
Oh and point out the 5 cameras around the yard and entrance, one of which reads number plates
Sounds a good system. What was the approximate cost? Do you have a link?
Which sim do you use?It was about £2000 fitted to existing gates by a local company http://midlandcontrolsystems.co.uk/commercial/ could have been cheaper but we have a pair of gates and fitted double actuators to each so it cant be simply rammed open, a single gate with single ram (like I have at home) would cost less - costs about £5/month in SIM charges but our yard is busy with several business using it, I have the same system at home and £20 PAYG sim has lasted 2 years already and still going strong on lighter use
Which sim do you use?
Tried with giffgaff on some container alarms, but need to be triggered every so often or the number gets cancelled
Everywhere same-even if you say cant afford it he comes right down and says he be back in March for cheque ?On the last visit from a travelling Irish powertool " salesman" I was told in no uncertain terms " now don't you be taking me number or I'll be back to see you". Charming fellow didn't realise his number was already on the cctv.
does he take dead horses? We had a lad rolled into the yard in a transit tipper asking for scrap, had pikey written all over him.
Five years down the line and he's my go-to man whenever I need anything moving in or out, lovely chap.
