New Land Rover Defender?

Listen ...... a 20 yr old hilux is far more comfortable than any LR 90/110 ever!

You must have some peculiar body shape that suits sitting on the floor with hardly any vehicle suspension. Or perhaps you only drive on nice smooth roads rather than rough farm tracks? Its only quite lately that the HiLux has become somewhat more civilised.
The LR may be short of room and not the safest vehicle in the world, but at least it has a suspension worth calling a suspension. Its not for someone waiting for a hip or knee replacement operation though, I'll give you that.

Yes, the old Defender body is thirty years behind the times. Yes pickup suspension and 4wd design is mostly also thirty years behind the times. However, pickups sell in their millions worldwide while LR only managed to sell about 14,000 Defenders worldwide annually in the last decade until the hype about the end of production kicked in.

They are all tools for a job. The new one will be a toy for big boy's playpens.

I've been told that the UK dealer principles have been invited to go to a launch event for the new Defender.

Any hearing the same or know any more? If it really is starting at £40k then the world is going mad, my last fully loaded 110 was only about £27k.

Been and gone last weekend I believe

Maybe if they paid me a generous salary to drive it.

Had one for 22 years, the last ten waiting for a new modern replacement. That was enough thanks.

Late models were a lot better - especially with bulkhead delete, extended seat rails, reccaro seats and smaller steering wheel, led headlight sound deafening kit options they became a lot more refined and comfortable, certainly not a motorway miles car though still that’s for sure !

In suv / 4x4 terms not even close to something like the v6 amorak we also use daily on the farm or my rr vogue family car which are a million times more refined but that’s not what driving is about for people who enjoy actualy driving and not just efficient means of transport

It’s like a classic car you can use everyday, people like them and let you out at junctions and smile, you don’t need to worry about constantly being over the speed limit and it demands attention and constant steering input

Drivers cars !

They are crap. Absolutely honestly if somebody gave me a brand spanker and said it was mine to keep, paid for the fuel and then offered me a salary to drive it for the year I’d still say no.
Within the last few months I was offered a lift in one for a 2 hour journey. Answer was no I’ll drive and have the stress of the traffic.

are Landrovers that bad??
I have never owned a LR and the only time I have ever driven one was in 2004/5 when I helped out a neighbour when he had hip replacement and it was SWB and I liked driving it,

Couldn’t agree more ! Have all sorts of nice choices to drive but beyond doubt my first choice favourite is my Defender 90

Here it is in all the glory - driven down to Poole and back several times without any Dramas

The newer ones can be problematic, but you go into owning them with eyes wide open and like anything. You get good and bad!!

Always found resting elbow out the window far more comfortable than driving “cars” and I always drive with window down in any vehicle unless it’s pouring down. Would never dream of parting with my 90. Drive right on into fields when “trucks” have to park up on roadside because conditions not perfect. They have their faults everyone agrees but as work vehicle on livestock farm there’s nothing comes close.

On another note does anyone know if it’s possible to get replacement bull bars. I know they’ve been illegal on new vehicles for years but mine had it since new so wouldn’t be a addition just replacement.
