Might be. Have you heard of more examples of this fault in CNH fuel filters? Obviously they will all have been recalled and probably recycled by now, so there should not be any in circulation unless there are some in stock in farm workshops.

Yep heard of a couple of them alright.

With all these filters made abroad perhaps we should stock up now before Brexit! Then there will be no water, mars bars or filters.

Thought I’d post these pics as I think they’re totally relevant to this subject, both tractors are currently in my workshop (6630 headgasket, 6830 engine rebuild) both around the 6000h mark. One has been run all it’s life on jd oil, the other according to the customer has been run on a equivalent if not higher spec oil.

Neither tractors have ever been “chipped”

Thought it as good a comparison as I’ll ever be able to give.

Thanks.

Have you seen the drums of "equivalent oil"? The 68 to me looks like its nearly cooked...needing a Rebuild at 6k:cautious:

People don’t release that the only thing keeping the pistons and rings cool is the oil! The piston it’s self doesn’t touch the liner (or it shouldn’t:whistle:) so the coolant has no affect on piston temperature. If the oil isn’t cooling and lubricating the pistons and inside of the liner it’s going to get hot! Which will cause ware and a lot of it.
The oil also has to be able to stick into the bore honing yoo lubricate the rings, not all oil’s do this efficiently.

There’s no signs of scoring on the 68 so I doubt it’s been over cooked, the hg hadn’t failed either which is the common one when Deere’s run hot.

I’m fairly confident they’ve both been serviced at the correct intivals, the 66 has been dealer maintained. I know the owner of the 68 is petty good with maintenance, just perhaps not in choice of oil:whistle:

What brand and spec of oil was the owner using?

I am sure many on here would be interested.......................
I’ll broach the subject when I speak to him next week, whether I start naming oil brands and accuse them of destroying engines on an open Internet forum is a different matter:cautious:!
For now we’ll just say brand X isnt working as effectively as the manufacturers specified oil shall we;)
