6630 Engine oil

Makes you wonder why manufacturers are now trying to stretch service intervals to 750 hours now . Clearly to artificially reduce the perceived cost of ownership but 750 hours is a long time to run your engine oil imo .

£1200 pounds for a 1200 hour service was a bit painful the other day when invoice came in. Used our backend oil. They supplied engine oil, filters/labour.

What tractor/model? Sounds dear if you supplied the back end oil as well! There’ll be around £500-600 in labour at dealers rates, but still sounds expensive for parts. Is that plus vat as well?

T7 260 NH. I'll check if it included vat.
Not to well up on the price on NH parts, if it’s including vat it’s probably not far off the mark for a major service.

I’m guessing they replaced all the air filters including the cab ones. It can soon add up!
I usually use a bit of judgment on the cab air filters, some will be like new if they don’t do a lot of dusty work. They can be big money on some models to!

Changed the fuel filters on a 6330p at the recommended interval, on the back one the center was rattling loose ,dealer said that manufacturers will only warranty filters for 3months, seems a bit of a cop out as not many would be doing 500hrs in 3 months

Oil is a complex subject these days,Tier 4b engines need an E9 spec oil mostly, where Tier 3/4a were ok with E6/7 for example.Im sure JD plus 50 is up there with the best, but there will be plenty of others just as good and a fair bit cheaper, but its hard to know which cos there are so many different specs. It is perfectly possible that 68 has been on expensive oil of the wrong grade.I do think using the right oil is more critical on a Deere engine because it ingests its own soot, where most of the others do not.

This thread is depressing, service Interval of my little tractor is 600hrs but by sounds of it I should half that time.
The 6630 has only been served at 500h intervals as the book says and the bores are like new. But its been on the specified oil which was designed to go to them intervals.
Plus 50 was designed to go to 20% over the 500h service interval, so in theory it’s good to 600h before the oil start to degrade.
Plus 50 II was developed to go even further, R series have a 750h interval and the oil is designed to go 20% over that! However I still change mine at 500h:whistle:

Normal services should be 250hrs on tractors and 5000 miles on vehicles. Or yearly which ever is sooner. Been doing it for yrs, as my father did, never rebuilt a engine yet !!!!. So won't be changing from that system. Oil and grease are a cheap machanic
And never needed to add oil to a engine between services.
