Driver snobbery,or inability

I reckon the bloke did OP a favour by walking away. Our arable man loves the older tractors - gives them a valet before harvest each year and keeps any that he drives spotless. Our stockman wants us to buy him a 6250R for the straw blower but can turn a spotless tractor into a sweet wrapper and baler twine filled cow shed in half an hour.

I think the ban on personal phones would be the deal breaker for me.

Maybe, should of asked if he needed any training on how to drive a proper tractor with gears and levers ,,oh and what is wrong with wuffling or haybobing a bit of hay with the 135 fergy
Ah now i know why no young fella calls anymore looking for work ! The 6290 is heading for 17 years old yet we still consider it the " new" tractor and heaven forbid that we would ask any young buck to drive the 6180 or the noble and reliable fords 8340 and 2 wheel drive 76 1 0 would probably be a deal breaker.. My father bought a 2140 brand new in 1984 to replace a porous block ford 66 and that deere was light tears ahead of anything i had ever driven before in terms of comfort and speed. Still a very comfortable drive today imho .

Two large scale contractors in the area ,have banned personal phones ,and they all have supplied work phones , too many near misses and one lost a job by a driver posting pictures at a farm slagging farmer off because of poor crop they where harvesting ,farmer seen it and was not happy .
So how would you police the phone problem

This probably isn't a thing in the UK any more but in the 90's Air con was an option on many 100hp tractors. A bloke I drove for at the time ordered 3 F series Fiats. The 140 had standard AC (nice for the foreman) the 100's didn't, the salesman told me it was about a 600 quid option (I think) they were total greenhouses in the summer, should have been standard:banghead: The same with the 6640/7740/7840 he had. A bit miserable I think considering we were putting over 2 thousand hours a year on them:mad:

Don't hire cheap kids to drive 150k+ worth of machine?

There is no excuse for treating a machine like a refuse bin, people who do that would drive me loopy. I generally like tidiness inside and out and everything set as you would expect.

I don't see how you can enforce a ban on phones, don't employ muppets would be my suggestion. If you are employing people and paying them good money to use good kit, then you should expect a required level of professionalism. As usual, the issue comes down to ones ability to manage people, something they do not teach you in many places.

I’ll have to agree with the above post saying it’s an employees market these days.completly the opposite to my youth.must be nearly impossible to find good lads who will do a bit of everything without complaints.im sure they are out there but it seems the Eastern Europeans are far better all round and appreciate the opportunity.will only get worse if they all go home

Must be

Perhaps I should try a retrospective claim for compensation

Running behind a DB885 dragging converted horse drag harrows lifting them on the move when they got clogged with couch grass was one particular memory

Think all of us of a certain age have done that sort of thing and we dare not complain.dont think it would happen with some of today’s youngsters.a lot depends on their upbringing though.

So you would take 120 k tractor into woods to pull a few logs for a few hours,we even got a new log grab Skidder ,so you dont have to wrestle putting chains round logs ,.? And what is wrong with a 6610 deere with tls ,air con ,air seat ,be worse tractors to spend a day in , would rather have that ,than a new kubota
I thought you meant a Blue 6610. I'm out. ;)
I'd drive anything with one windscreen. SG2, no thanks. ;) ;)
Good luck.

I don't see how you can enforce a ban on phones,

Never said total ban on phones , just smart phone , just have a phone that rings text and maybe camera , is agriculture exemp from using phones in WORK TIME. ? . I take it you you go out for supper once in a while or shopping , is it aceptable for a waiter or waitress , or checkout person to be snap chatting , or having conversation , or just hold on luv while I order ( just be a couple of minutes you don't mind waiting luv ) a pair of shoes on Amazon do you luv . Be a bit of a bigger of your putting a widget on a wot sit on s production line and your on face book and all ghe widgets are backing up and slowing the line up .

with regards a ban on phones, I do agree some bend the rules a bit, others just snap the rules and take the pee,
as said above about the waitress etc, your right, however you still see lots of woman with phones in there back pocket when looking at there ass, as they walk away with your order, ;););) so they must use them at quite times between customers,

and think its only fair in some jobs, and it is imposed at some places, that phones are left in the lockers in staff room,

but some may not be aware in the lone worker policy for employees, where the business needs to give a phone to a lone worker, the likes of a phone for contact in an emergence for help,

one i did hear of is, the boss lets them use there on phone on a fair user policy, yet the boss was friends with them on the likes of FB, snap, and the likes, this way they could see what they were posting and at what time they posted,

trouble is, if you have to keep checking up on them, you might as well do without them, as there has to be trust between both parties,

might be best to reduce the pay that is offered by say £1 per hour, but pay £1 per hour bonus each week for not using the phone, on the flip side, most young guys would rather drive a big new flash Fendt for min wage and post on FB,
,rather than drive a shed and keep off the phone for £20 per hour

anyway i dont mind driving a MF 135 without A/C and haybobing ;) and promise I wont post pics of the lovely neat rows on FB (well not in your time) :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

A responsible use clause? A good smart phone for many people is an essential tool of modern life. Many people these days have a second job or small side business trading on ebay and need to be connected. Also in their pocket they have instant access to weather reports, internet resources, and dozens of helpful apps such as mapping that can assist their job. They are a source of music, if like me you have given up on broadcast radio and Spotify/stream everything. I'm sure you are also aware of the local rural crime network which our employees monitor and contribute to.

The problems arise when muppets do stupid things. Broadcasting sensitive information on social media, irresponsibly/illegally using a phone while driving or interrupting a job to take a social call/text should not be tolerated.
