Effin mart

More of a rant than anything else.
I'm not expecting sympathy...

Previously had a poor do with lambs in a local mart.
Not had anything in since.

Decided to drop in 6 cull ewes and 2 swale wethers seeing as I was passing on fat day.

There was one very poor ewe, the others were big and well fleshed.
They were cull ewes, I was under no illusions of high value.
Despite clear instructions they left them as a pen of 8.

Got the "cheque" today.

Sold for £1 per head

Talk about taking the pee

Phoned to make sure there was no mistake.

No mistake we were told, told they were too thin.

It would work out that we actually owed them money so they called it square.
How kind.

Last time they see any of our stock.

Rant over

Unfortunately 8 ewes isn’t worth a working mans time at mart. I understand if sheep is your main income but I can’t stay at mart to watch 10 lambs sell, I’m better off getting £50 less and getting a full day in at work
Yes your right , but no good complaining afterwards if skin and bones not flavour of the day possibly?
Just saying?

Only time I have £1/ewes.theycan hardly walk round the ring .so looks like you were well short
. If a ewe was only worth a quid she would be in such poor shape she would be unfit to transport. Like you I can’t afford to hang around at the market for half the day to end up bringing a handful of sheep back home. Then have to waste another half day taking them another day.

Maybe some auctioneers need reminding that they are supposed to be working for the vendors? If you need to stand and watch them (which could be 6+ hours in our local mart, and many other decent sized ones) to save having them knocked down at knacker value, then they deserve to lose custom imo.
