How often do new employees not turn up.

Do any of you actually take time to look at how you treat your employees ive never had anyone not turn up without a call day or night before if employees are trrated with respect and appreciated you will revieve it back

I think when managing people every single thing gone wrong is my fault, in theory. Sometimes you hire the wrong person. They may work great elsewhere, just not in every situation. Have enough positions to fill and you are bound to see a bit of everything.

Just a few that spring to mind.

I was trimming my toe nails.?
My dog ate some rat poison.
I lost track of time.
I didn’t think you needed me today.
The wheel fell off my car,3 days later the wheels fallen off again.
Bailiffs tried taking my car.
I crashed my car (he left it upside down in the middle of an A road and thought removing the number plates would avoid prosecution):banghead:

I got drunk and passed out in the ditch in my truck.

My phone was dead so no alarm

I, a family member, friend etc got arrested/had to bail them out

Overslept so didn’t bother to come in

Car is out of gas/broke down

Unspecified family emergency

Just flat out incapable of functioning in the adult world because I’ve never had to do anything for myself even though I’m mid twenties.

Have never ask for excuses, but they are always readily supplied.

We have got guys been here 30 plus yrs, never worked anywhere else, nothing wrong with how we treat people thank you very much.

But we require extra help in peak seasons and I’ve come to realise that if guys work full time for a labour supply agency instead of a dedicated employer there’s generally a reason and it ain’t coz their work ethic attracts a whole lot of full time job offers.

we pay well, are always polite, but, if you agree a start date, suiting him, and wages agreed terms agreed, and that's the last you see of them, what can you do ?
i'ts not only farming, I was hauled off to hospital last year, talking to the auxillary, in charge of the emergency ward - he saw my farmers guardian - and he had a farm in the phillopines, he was in charge of ' training' new auxilleries, 2 week initiation course, some never turned up, for day 1, day 2, wasn't to bad, 50% never made wk 2, and about 10% were there at the end !

This is par for the course of the modern world. No shows and blocked numbers, jobs quit by text message, mums sent down to collect last pay packet, "the sun's too hot, the rain's too cold".

When and if you ever get a good one, you've got to do everything you can to keep them. Like tractors, the old ones are more reliable.

I thank my lucky stars I'm too old to be dating millennials, it's bad enough just trying to be their boss.

My dairy friend asked why the 2 Romanians who had been there for 6 months living in a farm cottage had not turned up for evening milking.
Their pal said they had got an early flight and would be back in Romania by now :scratchhead:

this person obviously has mental health issues but, on farm, is amiable although forthright and will do any job asked of them rain, snow or sun, also fiercely loyal to us despite the unreliability. Behaviour around the stock is also impeccable and never angry or untoward, in fact stock is a great leveller.
The farm is a getaway where life is simpler and has a routine where no crap is taken.

I think it must be remembered that not everyone can cope with daily life or take on the responsibility that others can especially where mental health is involved.

nnnnnnnnnnn

Sorry, this might not make sense but I thought it best not to post my list of excuses/reasons! Farms can be great places for people with troubles, all the while you’ve got that list of odd jobs such as picking electric fence, cleaning pens etc then they can get them done as and when.

Some people just aren’t cut out to turn up everyday. Knew a chap if he did three days on the trot felt so good about it would take the next 4 off! And was an intelligent chap.

They can’t hold down a regular job.

Had a person complain about not getting enough work. So said he could do milkings as weekend, then gave off for being asked to work at weekend.

Once a workers wife landed in the yard. He told her he was away to work for the day, he wasn’t never found out where he’d gone!

There are so many vacancies that people do not bother even dressing for an interview, and thats for a salaried job with a career. Employers end up hiring the 'might do's, which never work out.
I have just answered and ad from a fifteen year old who wants to do odd jobs. He want £10ph

I have only been unable to turn up for work once in the last few years- in the snow the main route to work was shut and I wasn't brave enough to take the scenic route in a regular front drive car. To be fair it was one of those days where the milk tanker couldn't come and the kid's nursery was shut along with all the schools so everyone is pretty much stuffed. Even the day after I had a job to get to work as very few roads had been ploughed or gritted.

Had a chap ring in said his clothes were too wet so couldn’t come in for milking. Bit annoying at the time but seems to be getting the norm around here in any job no respect for anything not even themselves

We had a lad ring me keen for a job fencing and desperate for money, already had experience fencing, wanted to do the job and was between jobs, we agreed he would start on Monday and come for a week and see if he likes it, never turned up!
I’m classed as a millennial, we aren’t all bad.
But some are, leave uni with a huge debt from studying something pointless, got a 35 hour week job which they describe as “hard work” new car on lease, 5% deposit on a house with an interest only mortgage, live month to month on credit, our generation are not educated to save and make do we have being influenced to buy now pay later and as long as we can service the debt, then that’s the life we live.

My wife was saying it’s apparently not unusual for several credit cards to be employed, each paying off another. Buy today, pay in 3 months, all flash no cash.

waiting to pay for petrol, chap in front was on his 5th credit card, that one went through on its 3 attempt, just thinking why didn't the garage tell him to f/o, then realised the petrol was already in his car ! When, I got to pay, mentioned it, oh that's quite common, it's only hassle, when none go through !

Happens every time with one of my Credit cards in the local Tesco garage - chip unrecognised

I just swap terminals and it goes through straight away - it's their crap equipment

I joke with the lads on the tills that Tesco should upgrade their card readers - they constantly ask for new tills and terminals and the big board displaying prices has been bust for weeks - lads say they're saying no money for new gear
