Why don't dealers get back to you?!

I suppose the clever sales people need to be able to sort out the Tyre kickers from the genuinely interested parties. A few dealerships around here only seem to be interested in the big boys, your more likely to get a response from smaller family run business that care, it must be hard selling new tractors today asking the amount they do, at least now they can ware a mask!!

You are being paid anyway, what odds does it make if you do get a tyre kicker in the place? I'd indulge them anyway.

Are dealers doing that well that they don't have to respond to enquiries. Looking for a New Holland TM, willing to spend between £20,000 - £30,000. I have emailed, rang and text multiple dealers and not one has got back to me! Why bother advertising if they aren't going to respond, or do the tractors just not exist!

There's your problem right there. Tell them you want to spend upwards of £60k next time. Won't leave you alone

Try getting a price for ready mix concrete? yes easy enough from the small firm down the road that mixes it up all colours and strengths? been caught once on that, 5 pound a metre cheaper but they cut the cement amount?, so decided only to deal with the national firms, hard hard going? seems many have enough large companies they deal with and your job is just a nuicance?

Farmers are just as bad if they change there mind or have bought from some ells most do not tell the dealer they have lost the deal
We changed a machine last year after viewing 3 different new ones.
Son made the choice, I made him ring the 2 unsuccessful dealers as well as the successful one. They were both extremely appreciative of the call.

Been looking at changing our baler, saw two advertised with dealers localish (one I've dealt with before) but not much info in the advert, so fired off an email to both asking a few questions. Didn't call because it wasn't urgent and I felt they wouldn't have the answers to hand and would need to get back to me any way. Must have been two months ago and still not heard back from either. My view is if that's how they treat customers looking to spend a few thousand on a machine, what would they be like if you wanted a (hopefully cheaper) part?

Something smells there..... litrally every part we’ve ever had off claas if they don’t have it in stock they’ll find it in the country and go get it in a van or we’ve gone for it in our van... if it ain’t in the country and before 3pm they’ll have it in your yard before lunch the next day! ... have known people order parts after 3pm and claas workers drive from Germany in a rented transit van with the part over night before

Whether they were deliberately slow because it was my local independent on the job I don't know but that certainly isn't an excuse.
It was chased up after a week and again after the second week.

I bought a tractor of barclay up in Perth, a secondhand one and Steven was on the phone to me in an hr after l left him a message, but other l have messaged haven't bothered to get back, maybe they think it's not a serious inquiry. There lose.

Sounds familiar, happened to me on numerous occasions, the last time we had this conversation on here, a dealer came on and informed us all that he could tell if it was a waste of time, sixth sense ? but I do wonder how some survive, and what's all this crap about not replying to a text, maybe don't wish to put anything in writing?

It's not just mech salesmen or dealers, I find solicitors and some accountants exactly the same. I changed accountants and the new ones are faultless (saved myself 70%/yr too)
I have never had an issue buying mech, i guess just lucky. But then I dont tend to muck salesmen about with countless demos etc unless I am actually going to buy something.
Find it the same with grain traders too, some are excellent, some dire, my business goes to the former even if it's a pound or two off. The personal touch goes a long way.
I would add that in this day and age with smartphones, there is no excuse. We're all busy but it takes 2 minutes to phone or e-mail a reply. It's just rude

Best I’ve found so far for pricing is Winston Pincombe (Ifor Williams)
You ring him for a price, he does the workings there and then, you can hear him scribbling sums in his book.
Proper job

I used text messages with clients a lot. They take seconds to read and are a great way of communicating something that isn't vital or complicated.

None of those experinces are acceptable!. However to put another ''selling experience'' across. There are bad apples in the buying side too!. I once had a chap email me for a price. He gave me a false name, a false farm name and location. When i eventually managed to track him down. He said he likes to ''keep people on their toes''. He never did buy, dont think he even had the authority. Think he was just bored! Nowt strange as folk....

reminds me of a story.
So, i provide a service in the railway and i have competitors, so I have to sell my companys services.
We have a major client who only uses our services.
One of his clients (the amchine owner) was trying to get him to use our competitor. This annoyed me but there we go.
One day, the end user rings me up for a favour (I know him well enough) so i asked him why he was stirring things up. his response was to "mix it all up a bit and keep us on our toes" to which my reply was thats fine, but that favour you wanted, will now cost you £500.
not really relevant here, but it still makes me smile, especially when i tell the story to people who know him. guys a clown.

Wouldn’t surprise me judging by the amount he had in his compound.

Dealers?

I am in the process of buying a new motorcycle

The Yamaha dealer has been excellent

Handled the enquiry promptly-made a very fair deal and bought my p/ex after just emailed pics

Order emailed through in 10 mins, last Friday night at 6pm

Asked to speak to salesman late this afternoon and he was busy, left a message & he called back within 10 mins and dealt with my request

Must just be farm machinery dealers ???

Ha ha i think its just machinery dealers,

i still cant get over walking around Robsons yard looking at machines found a mf6480 looking at it for ages (saw us looking at it sitting in it starting it etc) then went to see him to be told it was sold.. went to look at a similar sized class, no clutch at all 'yea thats been stood a while'

My dad was like a dog with 2 dicks that day he could have sold him owt but they lost any sale as the guy in the yard was just not 'on it'

obviously making so much money they dont even need customers :ROFLMAO:

yet another reason why i like to buy from sales, yet get what you see that day there and then no messing around and you bid what you think its worth...

Why don’t farmers get back to salesmen? Many must think the world evolves around them.

Quote farmer on new machine, explain it is last one left, can’t get anymore from manufacturer for this season, and that another customer is interested (why do they always think this is a tactic to rush them?). Farmer gets in touch a couple of weeks later and is upset because someone else bought it...
I had that, asked about a machine gave me a price I left to think about it over weekend went back beginning of next week he said it was sold. I said nevermind and was going to leave when he said he might be able to get another, I said it would have to be here by Friday ready to go. Turns out he sent their wagon to Dumfries for one and had it ready for late Friday salesman even stayed after hours with me and mechanic. All for same price as the one he had in stock the week before

I'm afraid recently in the past 3 or 4 months i have been guilty of missing loads of calls, messages etc This is quite simply down to being too busy to take every call! and there were several days were i had so many missed calls and messages to deal with i didnt even know were to start! i trawled though a lot of them as soon as i could but i know full well i didnt follow them all up as many just got lost in the phone as they got bumped down the list as new calls and messages come in.
