I’ve studied one man lime spreading for years it ain’t easy on the which machine front , best I could ever think of is wagon derived spreader like kiwis have and a tracked skid steer either towed or loaded inside spreader somehow .

So why does hardly anyone do it that way in this country?
I think in the thread which led to the Xerion Pete said that he wasn’t keen on the truck idea due to plating issues, being a HGV, and not being able to get big enough rubber under them.

I like the look of that S Trac Mog.

By coincidence I was talking to South Cave Tractors last week. Great idea and I’m not for one moment criticising the build, but I think it would be barely enough carrying capacity for my job.

However, when I’m old and want a few less steps to climb.....

The truck idea is not new they were using old Bedford 4X4's years ago, couldn't keep them out the ground was the problem

Mate use to drive a U900 unimog with a spreader on the back in the early 80's, had an elevator to load it, It was opened up pretty well, cops reckoned he was doing 56 MPH when they pulled him in, they couldn't think of what to do about it though so sent him on his way

Ontop if wagon no good then ?

No suspension.
For what it’s worth, the local one man band round here used to run a normal Mog towing a loadall, he now runs a MAN on big rubber towing a loadall. The big multi service contractor here has run Multidrives and Terragators towing loadalls but these last few years have been running 200hp tractors with Bredals with cranes and a front blade for scraping up.

There's a guy up here with a tractor and loader and a big land drive spreader it looks a bit of a dick around dropping the spreader every load but he had at least 1 big multi dock for pipes and cables and his PTO.

No idea of the potential output he was spreading on a farm I was doing fert for last week and was hauling it a long way as the wagons couldn't tip anywhere close .
Would a land drive be better in a field he was on some pretty steep stuff grass in the wet and I thought he was bloody keen there's bits of it isn't good with a mounted fert spreader.
Would a trailed with land drive be better on ploughed fields?

I wouldn't either but was just wondering if it would be better than a standard trailed with being a driven axle the tractor dragging it wouldn't be marking the ground as much or am I way off course ?.

Much better ! He used to have an ontop years ago .

If the lime business is quite susceptible to being curtailed due to the weather, could Pete look to do other work with his kit or find something to go behind it? Apologies if this has been discussed already or if Pete already does this, he may have mentioned what other services he is involved in or what other kit he has.
