I thought taxi drivers were heavily regulated and had been for years? Would uber drivers be the same?
Yes they are as I said above. DBS as standard and enhanced DBS if you taking children on their own. You also get regular courses on what to look out for eg. modern day slavery and sex trafficking, even in sleepy Devon which was a real eye opener for me. Plus any mention of inappropriateness will be investigated. I did it for a year when I needed $ and know of (edit) 1 driver who lost their licence for making payment 'suggestions' to young ladies the second of which was an employee of the licensing authority under cover. End of the day, you can't read everyone's mind and you can't always know if they have a history and have just never been caught.

Not sure about Uber. I think there were some 'problems' but maybe they have upped the game. They were always to enemy to proper cabbies as the standards were generally far lower in terms of driver and vehicle. Sign of the times I guess.

On a slightly different note doesn't the headline " Minnieapolis to pay George Floyds family $27m" seem somewhat baffling, the policeman is about to go on trial but I wouldn't hold out much hope for his chances as by this stupid action he seems to have been convicted already, what happened to innocent until proven guilty?
The guy arrested was a known criminal & surely no one really believes the copper intended to kill the guy & be lynched in the process & yet by paying $27m before the trial is held that is effectively what has happened!

I'm afraid I have only seen pictures of a restraint procedure mis-applied, not a deliberate murder. I hope our police restraint methods are HSEapproved then I won't lose any sleepK

And who does most of the child rearing? Women!

The best environment for a child to grow up in is for them to have a mother and a father. The roles of each are different.

I wouldn't worry about male kids being taught to respect the word no, the schools will have them filled with guilt over their gender by the time they leave, In the same way they're filling their heads with guilt for being white, guilt for climate change and guilt for eating meat.

The poor kids will likely be too terrified of covid19 to dare venture outdoors as adults anyway.

As these threads often seem to they have now also gone off on a bit of a tangent, but in response to people trying to turn the argument into it being about immigration; the only people who have touched me inappropriately are white males, some young (when I was teenage), some old (when I wasn't much more than teenage). The nearest an Eastern European got was to call me beautiful once, make of that what you will 🤷‍♀️

It occurred to me last night, back on the theme of taxis, how the 2 genders behave. I used to drive the 8 seater and did the Friday and Saturday nights because all the rest were too scared. 8 peed up blokes there would be banter about work, sport, calling each other gay and all that. 8 peed up women. Absolute filth. Nothing but talk about sex. Just an observation.

I suppose its just a small collation of individual experiences, the only people to attempt to rob me have been young black males, the only people who wanted to fight me have been white males, the only people to (ahem) inappropriately touch me have been ladies of a certain age! (Those ladies were handsy well before 6pm as well!)

Have been to many stag do's over the years with strippers, only once have I seen any blokes touch when told not too, he got slapped very hard by the two ladies and blocked by the other men for showing no respect, ask any Male stripper and they will tell you the women are often like animals and grab anything they can .

How about a 9pm curfew for everyone bar essential services. In bed for 10pm up at 6 am(tv and Internet restrictions to apply in these hours) and in work/school for 7am. Home for 3pm. More family time in light evenings. Option to work longer hours if wanted.

I’ve no doubt the countries production/output will increase with proper structure.

Yes this is the future, also it would be great if people could live in denser concentration, a labour camp right next to where their workplace is perhaps? Output could maybe be raised higher if costs are cut, so I propose cheap uniforms that should be mandatory for workers to wear and rather than houses everybody could live in long buildings lined with bunk beds.

I don't think family time is a good idea though, it'd be more efficient to separate them and group workers by their abilities. Also a good idea to have the state raise the next generation to ensure they grow into model citizens.

Once the countries production is up we should be able to invest more in our military and use the youth we have moulded as our army to invade neighbouring countries, that way we can increase their output too.

Sadly that misses the reports from a number of witnesses that he ignored the man saying he couldn't breathe over some 6 minutes and refused to remove the neck pressure, even after the man had passed out, despite being asked to by paramedics.

The trial will be very interesting.
