In trouble with their members not liking what they are doing, who would you like to see at the top table. New president and vice president and possibly the first 3 things that should change. Luckily I've no skin in the game, just watching.

We left a few years ago and the only way I would rejoin would be if they dropped all of the non farming members and we had only farmers running it. I don’t think any of them should be full time positions and they shouldn’t get paid a salary. They should have any costs reimbursed though.
it’s the only way to change it for the hood of the industry.

Someone who runs it like a representative organisation for farmers , too cosy a club between land agents , big arable business and the rest ,have watched quite a few of the parliamentary reviews and it seems Minnette doesnt want to rock the boat with regard to the supermarkets or DEFRA , the only one that raised relevant issues was labour Mp Barry Gardiner (chairman?) even had current defra minister (yea her!)
running for cover , the problem is a lot of people that would be great for the job left the NFU years ago , as they burn through the good will or took the shilling .

I’d say so. I was at party yesterday and 6 farmers who were there have all resigned in the last week. I can’t say that’s representative but it’s an eye opener isn’t it!

I would like to see each member get a vote on that, I would accept whoever the result was if i liked it or not because it would at lease be democratic

I find most of the youtubers commenting on RT etc a little lacking in some of the facts and understanding of issues like RT and you cant expect any "leader" to be an expert on all issues so what I would actually like to see is more of a split in power consisting of a council of leaders all specialists in their own issues

Just google TFF 2015 all the arguements will be the same allmost word for word and I dont expect anyones opion has changed
Has yours @Clive ,you were quite vocal on the isue at the time

Right now I simply feel like other are finally seeing some of what I was vocal about a long time ago

It's long overdue

however do not simplify my position. (many do !) , I am NOT anti NFU or AHDB etc, never have been and have said that many times in the past. What I am is not afraid to question and demand results / democracy, call our conflicts of interest and anyone I feel is putting their career above those they claim to represent or damaging / weakening our industry (like RT)

I have said before, few things would make me more happy that to want to rejoin NFU or be happy to pay AHDB more levy etc. Both need pretty radical change before thats the case however

If it wasn't for idiots like me challenging would anything ever change ?

My brother in law represents his union at work
Someone might correct me on this but I asked him on Saturday about the NFU misrepresenting it’s paying members and he quoted
The union is the members
The representatives represent the views of the members
That is a union
Someone might need to remind them of this

oddly however NFU is not a "union" apparently despite its name

Does the retail side pay as much as farmers do?
If this is the case (it’s a trade body) then the likely conclusion would be whoever is paying into them they will be representing in favour of

Why would anyone pay membership to an organisation unless they thought said organisation represented their views and they thought the cost of membership represented value for money?

Whilst farmers choose to pay their membership, they feed the status quo.

I'm not in the UFU, not FQA, not red tractor but comply with all required record keeping legislation as verified by FSA on their last audit. Farming pedigree cattle fortunately isn't impacted by not being a member of these bodies - (quango's).

Probably because they keep saying it could be worse without them
