After this year, i doubt i'll even complain if theres a drought.

Well... I wont complain as much anyway! Far better to be able to get on the ground and make the hay without sinking or getting rained on and not have so much of it than to have tons and tons of grass but not be able to do anything with the damned stuff.
A drought does more damage after a wet winter than a dry one. Depending on soil type.

To get all scientific, it gets a cockā€™s stride lighter everyday, anyone else heard that expression?
Yes, there's a Welsh saying which is an exact translation - "Dydd yn ymestun cam ceilog".

It's a common saying in our family but never heard anyone else say it. I also didn't know it was a saying in English either.

Always found it an odd one, as the days get longer by 2 minutes daily....must have been a cockerel with mobility issues they were comparing it to.

In practice the shortist amount of actual daylight is weather and moon dependent.
Last few days have been better than the previous week as there's been less cloud cover and the moon is getting brighter.
Seemed dark all afternoon several days last week.

I always think once we get past the Christmas and New year festivities the difference is noticeable and starts to feel positive.

The earliest roots of 'Christmas' can be traced back to a pagan festival celebrating what was seen as the return of the sun.

So Christians have been conned to a considerable degree by being persuaded to celebrate Jesus' birth on a date which has no evidential base whatsoever, when actually the true Christian festival should be Easter which has biblical verification as to when it happened.

"Conned" is an interesting use of word.
Plenty will argue Christians have hijacked a pagan festival for Christmas.
Though you could argue the Christian festival of Christmas has since been hijacked by the gods of materialism and consumerism.

Christians still celebrate Easter too of course.

Whatever it means to you, have a good Christmas, and take time to reflect, and be with those who matter to you.

Been noticing track of the Sun, always amazing how low it is compared to summer.
20th Jan we shall have gained an hour.
Do what you have to do, and be kind to yourselves.
For me - the first game of the 6 Nations means we are half way through winter, and the morning of the last game is the time to grease the ferteliser spreader.

Fair point, there simply isn't enough historical evidence to ascertain how quickly or willingly Christianity came onboard so I suppose it is entirely possible that an existing festival celebrating a significant event in nature was indeed selfishly "hijacked" by Christianity as opposed to them being coerced.

As for "materialism and consumerism", well haven't those two things just pretty much hijacked the entire planet and for 365 days of the year.

I tend to notice the days getting longer if we have a cold bright period.

We can't do as much when frosty so a few days of early finishes & when it comes milder, oh its lighter too. 15 minutes a week soon adds up.
