Surely the simple answer is sell the carbon credits to the highest bidder, then wen mr Tesco and his chums come knocking it a case of tough you had your chance but didn’t want to put your hand in your pocket.

all your 3 points already exist

it’s not a product exclusive to food chain - there is a huge market that i and others are already suppling

why on earth would we restrict our market to half a dozen supermarket buyers who clearly work together to keep prices low or in the case of assurance premium none existent
Sure. I have no problem with a supermarket paying me some cash if it suits their narrative.

To use dairy as an example:

Lets say your carbon stock equates to 10 carbon credits per acre.
Arla want you to hand over 7 credits/acre as a condition of taking your milk.
ABP want you to hand over 2 credits/acre as a condition of taking your culls.
Buitelaar want you to hand over 2 credits/acre as a condition of taking your calves.
What you going to do ? Buy a credit off a direct driller ?

That, in essence is what GFC is going to do to you. And as of today there is nobody, no farmer body, opposing this.

Well if you haven’t got it they can’t have it.

I’m in that position as landlord has retained them in tenancy agreement.

will red tractor refuse my money if I don’t have any credits to give away???

No but you'll struggle to sell your produce, if you have none to give away then I assume you'll have to buy them in. Meanwhile imports will carry on flying in. It seems a fairly predictable set up.
I'm guessing non assured markets will pretty much dry up completely.

If farmers stood together and did as you said then yes but I cannot see it as much as I'd love to.
But it then begs the question "what if you're unassured" and if you're unassured and entered the whole place into CS?? I would then have excess credits one would think.

It beggars belief that a Morrisons employee will come out and say their customers are demanding action on green issues, I don't doubt they are getting a lot of correspondence on this, but it will be from the people who look down their noses at Morrisons and shop at Waitrose/M&S. Morrions customers only care about the price.

Remember the time when Tesco were under great pressure to be a nicer more caring organisation from left leaning "caring" types, the Chief executive who listened to them is long gone, he made the mistake of thinking that if he changed Tesco the complainers would shop there, of course they wouldn't they despised Tesco and all its customers.

GFC. What is the going rate per hectare permanent pasture?
Not being FA and happy to continue selling through livestock markets what kind of figure should I have in mind when a shiny shoes conman comes calling?

How very generous …….. How VERY condescending !

The open market can decide the value and we can decide if we want to sell at that price

“supermarket god complex reaches new levels” should have been your headline @Abi Kay

even if BA and Shell want to pay you more ? ................. interesting point of view !
2. It has to be at the market rate.

I don't trade with either BA or Shell. I do rely on supermarkets to sell my produce. What are BA and Shell paying?
