absolutely evil things, the people who 'claim' to be protecting nature, ought to see the blind ewes, or ones with their guts pulled out, but then, they would blame 'something' else did it.

could shoot loads of them, when l don't have a gun, otherwise its a rifle. Here its the 'big' crows, that are not to many of, thankfully.

this drive for 'protecting' everything, is upsetting a balance, that has been managed for 2/300 years, you simply cannot protect everything, if the apex predators, are allowed to massively increase. Then they refuse to accept where the problem is, their stock answer, is 'farmers and intensive farming'.

The easily distracted lazy toad in me got most of a ladder trap like the one posted above built several years ago, with pretty much just the roof & ladder to build. It’s sat in the shed like that for 5 or 6 years now.

Free to anyone relatively local that wants to collect it and finish it off…

Sorry to have to say it, but there needs to be some good video, then plaster it all over social media. Of course, some would claim it is fake but nothing gets the message across like the moving image.

I recently advertised a piece of equipment with still photographs. Absolutely no interest. Then I posted the ad with a short video, 58 seconds, and I've had a big response. But who could sit idly by filming while a ewe gets it's eyes removed? If just a still image, they would claim it lost it on a piece of barbed wire.

Got 800 crows and a buzzard in a ladder trap one august. Once a few go in a crowd seems to attract a crowd, would have 60 or 70 in at a time!

Exactly why do you think that they used to go knocking out crows, rooks nests, my mum said she saw that where she lived in the 1950s? Its the "modern" diconnect with farming, raising/protecting animals? All this and more will change in an instant if, as i keep on mentioning a serious situation like the food shortage in ww2 happened?

I had a ladder trap on the go a few years ago, it worked well, it caught a lot of crows. then one day a big hawk / buzzard bird of pray thing got in and killed all the crows that were already in it. No crows ever went in it again after that

Have most success with the ladder trap in the spring/summer with the young crows before they get too streetwise, just bait it with a bag of meal, worst job is dispatching them when you catch 50-100 at a time

Na, after you've had to knock many a perfectly good lamb on the head because a crow has took it's tongue you find great delight in setting about a cage full of them with a pick handle

If anything needs to be dispatched it should be as quick and painless as possible. Terriers tend to be loud and that seems a bit off to me.

Had this poor bugger this morning cast on its back alive, came up to it from its head end and thought just in time to save eye as the rooks had only pecked around the edge, then saw the guts out!
The time it took me to go back and get the captive bolt, no more than 10 minutes, their was a dozen or more rooks on her and 3 red kites.

No apologies for posting the picture as I expect their are some folks that will defend them and need showing.

Red kites are in plague proportions round here. I counted 9 on one field this week.

apparently you can tempt them in with eggs or shiny things but I’ve never had a lot of success this way. Call birds are the best way, you’ll quickly hoover them up.

couldn't you put one of the dead sheep in there? Maybe with the door open for the first day, then shut the door.

Got a couple of croakers flying over us , they no bother at the minute and not about all the time but the JR barks at them whenever they fly over "his" airspace so wether that keeps em moving

I have a ladder trap made to the basc design, caught 4 big crows in it one morning, went back to get bang-stick and by the time I got back 2 had escaped back out the ladder, they’re smart brutes.

They do breed well. Trouble is they are pretty birds and easily trained to come to food in the garden. All this does is allow them to rear one or two more young a year.
I think even the RSPB try to stop people doing this to stop an imbalance in the wild.
