John Deere 6R radiator screens essential?

We have a 6175r which in chopped straw and chaffy environments blocks the radiator screens and then begins to overheat. It does it quite often, up to 2/3 times a day when ploughing. Are these screens essential? We have fendt & New Holland equivalents without these and they never have an issue getting hot. The rads are easy to clean so if they got abit blocked a few times a year that wouldn't bother me - just wondering if anyone has had any issues removing these. I'm looking into a reversible fan, but if this works that'll save me a few Bob.

Can’t remember to be honest, it was a couple of years back so probably around the 3000 mark, it definitely improved her, she’d be up in the red as soon as the going got a little tough.

I wouldn't take them out .

I've been tempted many times round balein is my worst job if it's really dusty we've a 7820 and a 7930 with no screens and never get any bother but the smaller ones are all the same from a 6810 to a 6R I can block them in half an hour balein straw .

Most of it would go through but if it doesn't it's gonna be a bigger pain to clean out

I was blocking them every 15 mins on headed grass. Triple mowers on a 6215r.

Chucked them out, done 6 hours without overheating and I power washed out the rad at the end of the day.

IMO they should be kept in for 'Normal' use, not particularly fine dusty work.

And edit to say, the option was turn off a hot engine every 15 minutes to clear it out, or pull them out with the engine running and have half the dust go through anyway 🤦

I've had a play around for a few days. I tried without both screens and it ran much cooler and didn't overheat as badly (in the field behind a combine peaked at 90°C, and in road went up to 105°C or so, BUT I didn't like how it blocked the coolant radiator (the furthest back one) as that's much harder to clean out if it does get blocked. However I did find the chaff pretty much passes straight through the front cooling pack (AC & Hydraulics I think), and if that one did ever block right up it's very easy to clean as it slides out the side.

For now I have kept the main radiator screen and ditched the front one. I'll see how I get on. I still block it relatively easily, so have to clean it a few times a day, but now it's just the one screen to remove and clean instead of the two before.

It seems the only way to truly fix this is with a reversible fan, but I got a quote for on unfitted in the region of £2.5k...

If it was a bailing tractor I would spec it with one from factory without a doubt
