Romney tup lamb

We ( well the mrs) bought a few Romneys last year to see how they would do, long story short, two of the bunch must have been in lamb and lambed in early February
One had twins and one a big tup lamb which we decided to keep intact
Now we are looking at shedding tups across a bunch of our Cheviot x Welsh
What to do with the Romney ? Try him on a bunch or sell him on
What would he cross with ( we have cheviot’s and Cheviot x )

They’d cross well to make a perendale!
Or no offence meant, cull it , and buy a properly recorded Romney tup from High Country Romneys, or @Frank-the-Wool will be able to sort you out !👍
No offence taken, to be honest we are looking at shedders but big ted stands out from our other lambs so was wondering if it’s worthwhile trying him on a few ewes

Don’t want to put everything in shedders straight away
Looking at tupping 200 ish with shedder to start with
"Interestingly", when I bought in the original EC bunch, about 50% had been put to a Romney. Original owner had done so to "improve the lambs". I could not see a lot of difference other than a short fleece, and neither could the buyers in Market.

We , well my young hired help , went through the in bye ewes and lambs yesterday
I was relegated to leaning on a pen ordered the dogs as my back is still feked
I cull hard but out of 260 ewes there’s only 10 to go
The few Romneys and welsh miles are good as are the Cheviot and cross bred ewes
So I may need to review my plans on what tups
We’ve some cracking Cheviot tups and a couple of texels
Thinking keep Cheviot and there offspring can go on to the shedders
Big ted the Romney tup lamb may get put on a few

Slightly different perspective, but if you find an animal that thrives on your farm (above and beyond the average) then it may have something going for it that is naturally/genetically attuned to your farm and may be worth taking a small chance. You might be pleasantly surprised by the results.
Very true, our best ewes are home bred

We lent a friend some easycare ram lambs, just out of the killers as he is non mv, the x bred lambs out of his romney ewe lambs look great so much so he has kept a bunch of the half breds in an otherwise pure Romney flock. Personally I cannot bear all that wool and we have started the road to breed shedding terminals to go across our exlana/easycares b flock.

If your looking for a quality, performance recorded shedding ram, with known health status, then get in touch and I’ll offer you something for him as a trade-in!

If I’m trying to decide on something like this, I think what’s the worst that can happen? Trying him on a small batch or using him to sweep up isn’t going to break the bank. Sometimes it’s good to have a spare tup around🤣 . If you just want to keep him, do you need a teaser? Looks ideal for that job

Mrs is loathed to let me sell him 🙄
Decided to Chuck him in with a few cheviot’s
Not to sweep up but to go first , then the big Cheviot tups can follow on to sort anything he hasn’t done
