Sugar in diesel

I’m sure sugar does something to diesel pumps.I’ve known of people who have put it into tanks to damage machinery, and no I don’t approve of it.

I'm sure I remember dad saying how he wanted to dump a load of sugar in someone's tractor fuel tank because he reckoned that he knowingly sold him a BSE cow back in the day. My understanding was that it really f*!ked the engine. (One would reasonaly think that it would). It never happened in practice though. Reason prevailed unfortunately

I understand that after a falling out with an ex employer my late uncle may have poured sugar into the ex employer’s fuel tank causing a seized engine. All now dead so don’t know about the validity of it. I would not be risking putting it in anything of mine and I am normally not too risk adverse.

That’s the offending stuff that was in the tubs. Unfortunately I no longer have any vehicles that are non common rail, and the thought of putting it in the scraper tractor just kills me. There’s thick end of £5k, I was hoping that such a small amount may not hurt or it would be possible to filter it out

Seem to remember someone having a tractor sugared by someone which lead to it stopping and the engine needing stripping down and cleaning, that was probably an early 70s tractor so it would probably proper knacker a new one. Not worth the hassle or expense, keep it for fire lighting.
As a random fact apparently jelly babies will have the same affect

IMHO - best course.

Google seems to reckon the diesel won't dissolve the liquid sugar, so = and it's going to be a bit labour intensive - drain out the diesel from the IBC in to a clean one or another suitable container. Either try pouring in as much boiling hot water you can get together into the container to dissolve/dilute the sugar (which I'm assuming will be a bit treacle like??), agitate and pour out, depending on what it looks like maybe repeat. If you've got access to a steam cleaner that would probably be better, or even in addition. Drain out as best you can. If you want to try and get any remnants of the water/sugar mix out throw some methylated spirit in which will absorb the water, swill that out.

How did the diesel get into there? If the delivery driver put it in the wrong tank, tell them to come and pick it up again.

I think project farm did some tests on this and found that granulate sugar didn't dissolve in either petrol or diesel but it did cause a lot of extra fouling in the engine. I'd be wary of coating the internals of a modern engine, let alone the fuel system, injectors and sensors with residue it was never designed to cope with. I see this is liquid sugar though also, which may well have all kinds of additives in it- molasses is often more than just sugar from memory.

Sell it cheap to the gypos. If you even get half the money back it’ll be a lot cheaper than possible repair bills. Just make sure the gypos don’t know how to find you after.
