Sugar in diesel

Long story short, but got 3 ibcs that have had liquid sugar in them filled with white diesel when there was maybe a gallon or so of sugar left in them. Will this be a massive problem and is the any soloution or is it just a case of don’t worry. Cheers

Personally I wouldn’t put it in anything modern.

May be OK in something like an old engine with a rotary pump, like an old dumper with a Lister/Petter like engine. Just spotted it being white, Escort/Montego van……

What liquid sugar,syrup, molasses,treacle?. Can it be seen separately or has it mixed in?Sugar doesn't dissolve in diesel and can be filtered out

Despite being white it woud be better in an old tractor rather than dump it, fill all tractors on a charity tractor run!

I’m sure sugar does something to diesel pumps.I’ve known of people who have put it into tanks to damage machinery,and no I don’t approve of it.

Doing a bit of a web search, sugar in petrol does not wreck an engine and in diesel does not mix, so tilt the IBC back a little to keep the sugar away from the tap and I think you will be ok, but use in an old type engine, no Common rail stuff.

Would there be any mileage in putting 5 gallon of water in the ibc so the sugar will want to dissolve into that?

People do that with petrol to take the ethanol out

Don't go anywhere near an engine with it, just not worth the risk.

With a petrol it will clog carbs and diesel it will clog filters but it always settles to the bottom of the tank

I watched ice cold in Alex (again) the other day, they did it in that

Seem to remember someone round here had it maliciously put in a diesel tank of a tractor, story was it was a bit more serious than just choked filters. Dunno if true or not. I wouldn’t be putting it near any engines, keep it and burn it in the drier next year.

The sugar melts in the cylinder when burnt turning in to a tar and sticks to every thing including the values eventually sticking them open after that its terminal.
