Where would we start, we're thinking of putting auto steer on our sowing tractor.
Are they hard to move from 1 tractor to another?
Basic approx price?
Make?

Thanks.

Been looking into one myself.
Had an end of line unit lined up last winter for a steal of a price, but the promised never materialised, so looking again.

Proper fancy things are mega money £9k+.
AgOpenGPS is certainly the most cost effective, but requires alot of input from oneself, tinkering and fabrication. Some excellent threads on here about it. @Andy26 Is your man for that.

Other more affordable options would be an FJD system or an Autosteer kit from FieldBee. <50% of the fancy things but about 3x the price of AgOpenGPS.

I've concluded I'm on manual steering for this years drilling (next week 🤞)

Trimble ezsteer is very basic but is hard to beat for an entry level unit. Can be moved pretty quick too. Not something you want to move on a daily basis but possible. I have a few units that get switched between different tractors. Handy having an extra unit as a back up. Assuming I can get it back from my neighbour.

Just sold some used GPS kit at auction last month, and as an idea of prices a Trimble FM750 and EZ-Steer sold for £3k combined.

What tractor are you wanting to fit autosteer to?

FJD system £5k
Trimble £7k
AgOpenGPS £1k (with some DIY fitting)

For the FJD and Trimble if you have the wiring looms free hanging in the cabs then just the case of removing the steering wheel motor and screen and antennae of the roof, probable 20-30 mins job.
AgOpenGPS just have one in each tractor.

We have a Trimble CFX /FM 750 RTX which is very good but the subscription is expensive however we’ve just bought a Fieldbee system for € 6500 which is less than half the price of the Trimble so we’ll see how it works.

Trimble quoted me £10k back in the spring time there and that was on a tractor that had a steering valve already fitted.

Agco recently spent $2 billion buying an 85% share of trimble

I'll just repeat that

Two billion dollars 🤯

Keep that in your mind when you're paying £10k+ for autosteer which also needs an annual subscription fee, be it from Trimble, China, or the green and yellow mothership of marketing

Agopengps has been developed by farmers, costs less than £1k for full 2cm rtk precision autosteer, section control, and headland turn, and they charge precisely no fees, whatsoever

Is agopengps autosteer as easy to use as the other brands once it's set up? Does it have language packs for non english speaking drivers?

No. It takes some work, and some fine tuning.

There is a whole international community that will help though.

More languages being added all the time.
