    Spring fed water supply

Our spring feeds 3 houses and all the troughs on its 1/2km run from the graveyard where it rises to the end. The higher troughs dried up in the dry but there was always a dribble going into the springbox (I called it le Manneken Pis the flow was that impressive) over 24 hours it was just enough...

I had not noticed the publication date:rolleyes:. Late to the party again.

The Lancet says "eat more meat"

Or at least that's what its trying to say but it disguises it in so much science that many will miss the point. Anyway, the point is made in the last sentence "eating saturated fat is inversely associated with stroke" "High carbohydrate intake was associated with higher risk of total...

    Footvax

Sorry your flock have reacted - puts you off doing it, its hard to tell whether the fleece will grow back. I used it through my flock (50ish) several years ago. There was a lot of limping and the vet suspected CODD as well as foot rot. Good cure to most and I culled any that did not...

training a 2 week old lamb to the bottle

Thanks for the advice and tips. He's taking a bit of milk but cant get the hang of sucking and he's looking dehydrated and coughing after a feed - its all so unfamiliar to him but he is trying and he's nibbling the lamb feed so that's good.

training a 2 week old lamb to the bottle

Oh boy, I have just had a ewe die and her 2 week old lamb has joined the bottle lambs. I've never had success training a 2 week old lamb to the bottle. Lamb has just watched the other 3 get a bottle and seemed interested but clueless. What works for you? Adopting it on to another ewe is not...

    Ecotricity................

Thank you all for running this thread. ... and for keeping it relatively respectful - I switch off when the banter gets too severe but OMG a thick skin is needed. We're with ecotricity and have been wondering whether it is right to stay with them. The reality is no one is perfect, I'm...

    Pension or property

Is this right? Lets say I work really hard and earn £15,000 per year. The tax free personal allowance is £12,500 so I pay 20% on £2,500 (£14,500 for me and £500 for taxman). If I put that £2,500 into a pension (£12,500 for me and £2,500 for my pension) then there's no tax to pay at that...

    Continuous glucose monitors

I'm a nurse. Some people have them when they stay in our community hospital. They save people with diabetes having their fingers pricked all the time; it continuously reads glucose levels (you just wear a button which measures your plasma glucose). It gives an instantaneous reading when the...

    Lambing pens per hundred sheep

We lamb outside, start mid March, 80 ewes, I made a couple of pens last year, used one. That was exceptional though but any ewe that draws attention to herself is gone asap. I'm getting too old to catch ewes in trouble.

Cheapest/ best material for field shelter cladding and roof

I have been told onduine is supposed to be put on top of osb. Our local saw mill sell something they called "square edge" which is the barky outsides that they saw off roundwood before making planks. Odd lengths but cheap; we've used it on some log sheds.

    Cheap EID Readers

I've got the reader in the photo of the OP. I did a bit of a review of it on here:- Simplest sheep EID tag reader and thermal printer If that's not a ff link then search for the thread. I'm afraid I hijacked someone else's question. It can download a list of eid numbers but there is no way...

    Docks and rotavating

We had lots of docks until I stopped having cows fed in the fields and started rotational grazing with sheep. All the docks are now gone.

    Parrot mouthed lambs

We had a few parrotmouthed lambs several years ago. It started me recording the lambs and ewes. Couldn't do it that year as had no mark on the ewes or the lambs but the next year, when it happened again I could match the new crop of parrotmouths with their mums and sisters (I remember having...

    Which Ewes to Cull

I have a Houdini who escaped the cull field, then jumped in with the ram and produced a super pair of lambs. We now have an agreement - she only jumps out when the grass is low so its up to me to move her flock regularly. I'd say she he led the way to rotational grazing. She's a special case...
