We've leased land this year for one cut off silage to feed to dairy cows. There is a fair amount off ragwort appearing in it. Does ragwort cut at this stage of growth affect dairy cows?
Seem to be more of a problem every year around this time.what are people using to take them out or would a higher rate of stomp/picona in autumn be more effective?
Has anyone had good or bad success with stitching new grass seed into an existing high input/output silage sward? We have a block of land in its 5th year ley, fairly open sward with no thatch due to the hybrid/perennial ryegrass mix but it has thinned a bit and we want to rejuvenate it. It's...

Aye-up,
I tidied up a rough corner of the yard two years ago. We then kept a couple of pigs on it and last summer I sowed some wild flower seeds on it.
It looked nice in the autumn, but now it’s just a mass of docks.
What will kill them but leave my wild flower mix?
Cheers, Pete.
As I have done for a few years now, I sprayed off a grass field and direct drilled in a forage brassica mix. What I normally do once it's grazed off is, leave it a few weeks and spray glyphosate. Once that's had enough time to work I disc it, sow straight away and roll.
This year I am planning...

We’ve planted approx 40ac new seed back in September and all has a lot of chick weed in it any solutions to remove the chick weed and save what grass we have left
Have several fields where leys are starting to get tired, I would like to perk them up a bit.
Would prefer not to plough out, how successful would hammering with grass harrows in September and chucking seed on?
I do realize weather would be dependent.
Any downfalls?
Tia.

Westerwolds is new to me, drilled 2 weeks ago after barley.
Pic taken couple of days ago and it’s starting to shift now. And been mild and wet last couple days in the balmy south!!
How soon do people graze it? Hoping to put ewes on in about 8 weeks.
There are few places on Earth that are without weeds. In other words, weeds represent a serious challenge to every crop production. Theoretically, a weed is every undesirable plant that competes with crops for nutrients, water, soil, or sunlight. Moreover, weeds are often host plants for various...
