    Number of tractors

Inspired in some way by the gatecrash of the Fendt gearbox thread, just thought I'd see what folks did. 20 years ago we managed with two 6290's and a 3075, and up to three hire tractors at peak times and contractor help for beet drilling and harvesting, hedge cutting, square baling, destoning...

Do i have enough slurry to justify buying a slurry tanker ?

Hi lads, first of all il say I have a 6 bay slatted tank, 110ft long 15ft wide & 8ft deep. Have about 45 acres of silage ground. Tank gets emptied twice a year. I have my own silage outfit so have no problem in pulling power. I'm a young farmer so I'm hearing I get 60% tams for a tanker. It...

    Sward Slitters

I'm thinking of buying a 6m sward slitter. I like the idea of the Aerworx roller style but don't think it will be wide enough to cover the ground. Any comments or recommendations?

    Overseeding

Was on a Superg farm walk this week talking about over seeding grass and clover https://www.super-g.eu/ It was interesting to see very little difference between the 3 plots on both farms. Control v slotseeding v rotor seeding. In terms of yields, protein or energy. There was a rise in the...

    Chopping Spring Oat Straw

How does chopped oat straw affect wheat establishment in your experience? Not a great market for oat straw, plus I’d rather keep the OM

    Splash it

These seem to be the next big thing just now, a lot of dealers beginning to stock them. Wouldn't be for me though, you won't have lines, but you'll be contaminating all your grass as you would with a splashplate and you'll be losing more ammonia. Could possibly see a use for dairy farmers doing...

    Sidelights blown but fuses alright

Earlier in the week the lightboard fell off the new dribble bar due to being poorly welded on and chowed the wires shorting them out. Never realised was anything off until last night when I realised the front left sidelight, rear right sidelight and trailer sidelights don't work. Checked the...

Vogelsang slurry booms offer simplicity and strength

DD grass into grass- to roll or not to roll?

I’ve had a stab at drilling grass into old burnt off pasture with an aitchison grasssfarmer, went half rate two ways on most of it, but would maybe have been better going full rate one way as the old turf fairly ripped up on the second pass and has made a bit of a mess. A roll would tidy it up...

    Digestate opportunity

Have an opportunity of getting some digestate on some of our ground - as it happens it'll likely osr. The cost to supply and spread is rather marginal to myself applying urea. P and K on our ground is good, so won't be saving on applications of bagged p and k. Is this an opportunity that...

    2000G tanker.Horsepower needed??

Hi lads & ladies . I am thinking of availing of the TAMS young farmer grant for a 2000g tanker & dribblebar. I have a 120hp massey 6cylinder. Is this enough power to operate a tanker that size ? Land is flat & not soft Thanks

    Arla sustainability/ animal robustness

I didn’t want this lost in the arla thread. Part of the sustainability box ticking is the animal robustness points. You basically loose points if too many cows die or get put down on farm. I lost 10 out of 325 on farm last year and am loosing half my points! There is no direct penalty for...

Video: New fitting aims to solve dribble-bar slurry issue

Written by Agriland Team from Agriland The use of Low Emission Slurry Spreading (LESS) equipment is increasing on an annual basis with the dribble bar being one of the more common LESS methods. One common complaint many farmers have with spreading their slurry with a dribble bar is that the...

Protected urea, should I spread with this hit and miss rain forecast?

As above really, I wanna get me grazing ground going and get some on for 2nd cut. I have some AN with I feel happy to spread, but not enough, and I have some protected urea, should I spread this with this current forecast that seems like we may or may not get some rain?

    Weight Limits

How many of you guys stick to the legal weight limits at harvest time 😂 The law is Max Total gross weight 31 ton Max Trailer and load weight 18.29 ton I only ask as there are so many 16, 18, ton trailers on the market which when loaded must be over the 18.29 ton limit Thought would be appreciated
